(9) Single-acting cylinder (10) Wheel brake valve |
Single-acting cylinder (9) with a spring return switch is used as a mechanical hydraulic connection between the wheel brake pedal and wheel brake valve (10). The cylinder is attached to the wheel brake pedal plate. Rod (6) is connected to the power brake valve in the wheel brake valve.
The cylinder includes cylinder housing (1), guide (4), piston (5) with rod (6), and return spring (3). The spring is installed on the rod end of the piston in order to hold the piston in the retracted position when the brakes are not hydraulically applied.
Pushing down on the wheel brake pedal moves the cylinder rod forward. The action of the cylinder rod operates the dual-circuit power brake valve in the wheel brake valve.
Placing the oscillating axle/operating brake valve in the left console to position III applies the wheel brakes. Oil pressure enters the cylinder from oil passage (7) to piston area (8). The pressure on piston (5) compresses spring (3). The rod that is connected to piston (5) activates the power brake valve in order to apply the wheel brake.
Placing the oscillating axle/operating brake valve in position I connects oil passage (7) to the tank in order to relieve the pressure. Return spring (3) forces piston (5) and rod (6) backward. This shifts the power brake valve to the neutral position and the wheel brakes are released.
