Bucket Cylinder - Install

Usage:

312B L 2KW

Installation Procedure

  1. Make sure that the pin bores in the stick, in the link assemblies, and in the bucket cylinder are clean and free of dirt prior to the installation of the bucket cylinder.

  1. Fasten an appropriate lifting device to bucket cylinder (4), as shown. Position the bucket cylinder on the stick. Make sure that the grease fitting in the bucket cylinder faces away from the stick. Make sure that the pin bores in the stick align with the pin bore in the bucket cylinder.

  1. Apply a thin coat of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease to pin assembly (7). Temporarily install the pin assembly. Do not remove the lifting device from the bucket cylinder at this time.

  1. Center the bucket cylinder on the mounting pins. Measure the total clearance between the bucket cylinder and the stick at the pin bore. The total clearance of measurement (a) plus measurement (b) must not be more than 1.0 mm (.04 inch). If the total clearance is less than 1.0 mm (.04 inch), the addition of shims between the bucket cylinder and stick will not be required. If the total clearance is more than 1.0 mm (.04 inch), the addition of shims between the bucket cylinder and the stick will be required.

  1. Remove pin assembly (7), if shims are required. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Cylinder - Remove" in this manual. Install the shims between the stick and bucket cylinder on the side opposite the retaining bolt for the pin assembly. Install the spacer and pin assembly (7). Install the washer and retaining bolt (5). Tighten retaining bolt (5) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (75 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Make sure that the grease fitting on the rod assembly is facing away from the stick. Lower the bucket cylinder between the link assemblies. Apply a thin coat of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease to pin (2). Make sure that the bore in the bucket cylinder rod is aligned with the bores in the link assemblies. Install pin (2) .

  1. Install retaining bolt (1) and the two nuts. Rotate pin (2) until the pin is parallel with the link, as shown.

  1. Tighten the outside nut until the nut is 0.5 mm (.02 inch) beyond the end of the retaining bolt, as shown. Tighten the inside nut against the outside nut to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (78 ± 15 lb ft).

    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Replace the O-ring seals in the ends of hoses (6) with new O-ring seals prior to installation.

  1. Connect two hoses (6) to the bucket cylinder.

  1. Fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level. Lubricate the bucket cylinder support pins. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedures.

  1. Start the machine. Run the machine at low idle speed. Remove wood block (3). Move the control lever for the bucket cylinder so that the cylinder rod extends to the halfway position. Retract the cylinder rod. Cycle the cylinder in this manner for approximately ten cycles in order to remove the air from the hydraulic system. Recheck the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank.
