307B Excavator Supplement for 4M40 Engine Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood of the machine.

2. Remove six bolts (1) and the washers. Remove access panel (2) .

3. Put identification marks on all alternator wires that are connected to the alternator. Disconnect cables (4) and (7). Disconnect connectors (5) and (6) .

4. Remove bolt (3) .

5. Loosen bolt (8).

6. Remove bolt (9) .

7. Remove the V-belts (10) from the alternator.

8. Remove the alternator.

Installation Procedure

1. Position the alternator on the mounting bracket. Install the bolt (9) that fastens the alternator to the mounting bracket. Do not tighten bolt (9) at this time.

2. Install two V-belts (10) in position on the alternator pulley.

3. Connect cables (4) and (7) in the original locations on the alternator. Connect connectors (5) and (6) .

4. Install bolt (3) .

5. Adjust the tension of the V-belts. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct adjustment procedure.

6. Tighten bolt (8) .

7. Hold access panel (2) and install the washers with the bolts (1) .
