(1) The Duo-Cone seal rubber toric rings and all the surfaces in contact with the rings must be clean and dry at assembly. Apply a thin layer of oil on the contacting surfaces of the metal seal before installation. The seal rings must be assembled square with the bore. Do not bulge or twist the toric rings.
(2) Apply SAE 30 CD oil to the bearings and to all mating surfaces prior to assembly.
(3) Apply 7M-7456 Compound to the threads and to the contacting surfaces of nut (3) prior to assembly. Tighten the nut to a torque of 23000 N·m (17000 lb ft).
(4) Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound to the threads of the bolts (4). Tighten the 24 bolts to a torque of 85 N·m (63 lb ft).
(5) Spacer Ring
(6) Apply SAE 30 CD oil to the contacting surfaces of the seals for the brake release piston. Install the backup rings and then install the seals prior to assembly.
(7) There are 32 inner springs and 32 outer springs. Apply SAE 30 CD oil to the springs prior to assembly.
(8) The brake for the final drive consists of multiple discs. The brake is applied by spring force and hydraulically released. There are eight outer discs and seven inner discs. Apply SAE 30 CD oil to the contacting surfaces of the brake discs prior to assembly.

Note: The Duo-Cone seal rubber toric rings and all the surfaces in contact with the rings must be clean and dry at assembly. Apply a thin layer of oil on the contacting surfaces of the metal seal before installation. The seal rings must be assembled square with the bore. Do not bulge or twist the toric rings.
- Place the Duo-Cone seal (1), spacer (5), and bearings (2) in position. Apply SAE 30 CD oil to the threads and to the contacting surfaces of nut (3) .
- Install nut (3). Tighten nut (3) to a torque of 5300 N·m (3920 lb ft).
Note: While nut (3) is being tightened, turn the hub in order to help seat the roller bearings.
- Measure dimension (A) in three places at 120 degree intervals. Average the three measurements. This is the starting point in order to preload the bearings.
- Tighten nut (3) while repeating 3 until dimension (A) decreases by 0.3 mm (0.012 inch). This dimension is the proper bearing preload for the 2 tapered roller bearings (2) .
Note: The torque for the bearing preload may be as high as 23000 N·m (17000 lb ft).
