Removal Procedure

Disconnect batteries before performance of any service work.

Note: Disconnect all electrical connections to the alternator before proceeding. Mark the connections or identify the connections for later installation.

1. Loosen bolt (2) and bolt (4) .

2. Slide alternator (3) toward the engine.

3. Remove alternator V-belt (1) from the alternator pulley.

4. Remove bolts (2) and (4) .

5. Remove alternator (3) from the engine.

1. Put alternator (3) in position on the engine.

2. Install bolts (2) and (4). Tighten bolts (2) and (4) finger tight.

Note: When you install the alternator, ensure that the alternator pulley is in alignment with the crankshaft pulley within 2.4 mm (0.09 inch).

3. Install alternator V-belt (1) .

4. Slide alternator (3) away from the engine in order to tension alternator V-belt (1). For more information on the tension for the alternator V-belt, refer to the Testing and Adjusting Module, "Belt Tension Chart".

5. Tighten bolt (2) to a torque of 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

6. Tighten bolt (4) to a torque of 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

   Note: Reconnect all electrical connections to the alternator before you operate the engine.
