Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel - Remove".

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove two socket head bolts (2) from housing (3) .

- Remove bolts (1) that hold housing (3) in position.
- Remove the crankshaft rear seal, the gasket, and housing (3) as one unit from the cylinder block. Dowels align the housing in position on the cylinder block.
Note: Do not pry the housing from the cylinder block. Use a soft faced hammer in order to lightly tap the housing. This will help prevent damage to the housing.
- Use a suitable press in order to remove the crankshaft rear seal from housing (3). Be careful not to put too much force on housing (3) when you remove the crankshaft rear seal.
