NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Put clean engine oil on the pistons, on the piston rings, and in the cylinder liners.
- Use Tool (B) and turn the crankshaft so that the corresponding crank pin for the connecting rod and piston that is to be installed is at the bottom center position.
- The connecting rods have numbers stamped on the tab slot side of the connecting rod. Numbers are also stamped on the bearing caps. The number designates which cylinder to install the piston and rod. Etch the cylinder number in the proper location on a connecting rod and bearing cap that does not have a number.

- Install the bearing cap on the connecting rod. The number on the side of the bearing cap is on the same side as the number on the connecting rod.
- Thoroughly lubricate the threads of the bolts on the connecting rod with clean engine oil. Install the bearing cap and the nuts. Tighten nuts (1) on the bearing cap to a torque of 82 ± 8 N·m (60 ± 6 lb ft). Put a mark on each nut and on each bearing cap. Tighten each nut an additional 120 ± 5 degrees.

- Repeat Steps 1 through 7 in order to install the remainder of the remainder of the pistons and connecting rods.
End By:
- Install the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Install".
- Install the cylinder head. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cylinder Head - Install".
