Front Housing - Remove

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install" .
  2. Remove the air compressor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Compressor - Remove and Install" .
  3. Remove the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Remove" .
  4. Remove the crankshaft front seal and the wear sleeve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove" .


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove two bolts (1) and the washers. Remove cover (2) and the O-ring seal from the timing gear plate.

  1. Remove six bolts (3) , trunnion (4) and the O-ring seal.

  1. Remove four bolts (8) , the nuts and the washers. Remove alternator bracket (6) .

  1. Remove four bolts (7) and remove bracket (5) .

  1. Remove eighteen bolts (9) . Four of the bolts have nuts and washers. Carefully loosen the timing gear cover from the dowels and remove timing gear cover (10) .

  1. Clean the old gasket from the contact surface of timing gear cover (10) and the timing gear plate.
