Cleaner Fingers in Cleaner Bar Group May Wear On Certain 826K and 836K Landfill Compactors {7160} Caterpillar

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Cleaner fingers in cleaner bar group may fail on machines that are listed above. This failure repeats at high frequency which leads to the damage of mounting bars.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, and is recommending the following interim corrective action.

Rework of Bar

(A) 48.75 mm (1.919 inch) (B) 21.5 mm (0.85 inch)

Drill holes with dimensions (B) to a depth of 56 mm (2.2 inch) at two places and tap with M24 X 3 to a depth of 41 mm (1.6 inch) as shown in Illustration 1.

Note: 339-0302 Bar and 327-3497 Bar can be used on both 826K and 836K Landfill Compactors.

1. Remove all paint from the bar.

2. Apply Loctite 263 to each bolt.

3. Install five bolts (1) and five spacers (2). Apply torque value of 900 ± 100 N·m (664 ± 74 lb ft) to each bolt.

   Note: Use open-end wrench for closer bolt spacing.

4. Repeat the same procedure for all real axle cleaner fingers.

   Note: This procedure is for the mid and rear cleaner fingers, and is not recommended for the front-mounted cleaner fingers.
