Installation Procedure for the 521-0390 Counterweight Kit on Certain 424B Backhoe Loaders {7056}

Introduction

This Special Instruction covers the installation procedure for the 521-0390 Counterweight Kit on the machine listed above.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.

Safety Section

------ WARNING! ------

Do not attempt to disassemble or assemble this machine until you read and understand the disassembly and assembly instructions. Improper disassembly and assembly procedures could result in injury or death.


------ WARNING! ------

Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment.

To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.

Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.


Note: Please read all of the steps before starting this Rework Procedure.

Note: The operator should wear a helmet, gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, and safety shoes, while completing this Rework Procedure.

Machine Preparation

  1. Park the machine on a level surface.

  2. Apply the service brake in order to stop the machine. Move the transmission control lever to the NEUTRAL position.

  3. Move the speed control lever to the LOW IDLE position.

  4. Engage the parking brake.

  5. Engage the transmission neutral lock.

  6. Raise the machine rear using stabilizer such that rear tire leaves the ground about 2 inches.

  7. Keep the stand under H-frame.

  8. Lower all work tools to the ground.

  9. Stop the engine using engine shut-off cable.

  10. Move the hydraulic control levers back and forth in order to relieve hydraulic pressure. Refer to the

  11. Turn the engine start switch to OFF position and remove the key.

Required Tools

  • Drill bit - 22mm (Required hole size - 22mm diameter, the hole can be achieved with multiple drill bits).

  • Portable drilling machine.

  1. Remove the rear tire completely on both sides of the machine. Rest the H-frame on the mechanical support.

  2. Mark and drill a first hole at the location on right-hand side of the main frame as shown in Illustration 4.

    (E) Diameter for the three holes is 22 mm (0.9 inch)

  3. Mark and drill the other two holes at the location towards the rear axle as shown in Illustration 5.

  4. Follow the Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 for drilling the holes on left-hand side of the main frame as shown in Illustration 6.

  1. Assemble the counterweight at the rear tire removed condition.

  2. Insert the six bolts (2) and six hard washers (3) from the inner side of the frame as shown in Illustration 8.

  3. Place the four plates (1) into the bolts (2) as shown in Illustration 9.

  4. Place the two hard washers (3) and nut (4) in each bolts (2) as shown in Illustration 10.

  5. Tighten the bolts (2) and nuts (4) to a torque of 460 ± 60 N·m (339 ± 44 lb ft).

  6. Perform the Step 1 to Step 5 for the left-hand side to assemble the counterweight.

  7. Re-assemble the rear tire with axle and tighten the bolts to a torque of 460 ± 60 N·m (339 ± 44 lb ft).
