Engine Air Precleaner - Clean

Usage:

825K 233

NOTICE

Service the air cleaner only with the engine stopped. Engine damage could result.

The engine air precleaner is located forward of the engine exhaust tube.

Two different types of engine air precleaners are available on this machine. One engine air precleaner is a single stage type. A second engine air precleaner is a dual stage type.

Single Stage Type

(1) Dust ejector slot
(2) Mounting clamp
(3) Precleaner air inlet

This precleaner has an internal turbine that must spin freely in order to operate properly. Dust and other particles are ejected from dust ejector slot (1) due to the force of the spinning internal turbine.

  1. Inspect dust ejector slot (1) for accumulation of dirt and debris. Remove any dirt and debris that is present.

  2. Inspect precleaner air inlet (3) for accumulation of dirt and debris. Remove any dirt and debris that is present.

  3. If necessary, loosen mounting clamp (2) and remove the engine air precleaner assembly to facilitate more thorough cleaning.

    1. Clean the air precleaner assembly with compressed air or wash the air precleaner assembly in warm water.

    2. Dry all of the parts.

    3. Check to see that the internal turbine will spin freely.

  4. If removed, install the air precleaner assembly and tighten the mounting clamp.

Dual Stage Type (If Equipped)

(11) Venturi exhaust pipe assembly

The dual stage type engine air precleaner consists of first stage air precleaner assembly (7) and second stage air precleaner assembly (8).

First stage air precleaner assembly (7) differs from the single stage air precleaner due to the addition of air inlet screen (5). Second stage air precleaner assembly (8) removes additional dirt and debris by utilizing suction created by venturi exhaust pipe assembly (11).

First Stage Air Precleaner (7)

This precleaner has an internal turbine that must spin freely in order to operate properly. Dust and other particles are ejected from dust ejector slot (6) due to the force of the spinning internal turbine.

  1. Inspect air inlet screen (5) for accumulation of dirt and debris. Remove any dirt and debris that is present.

  2. Inspect dust ejector slot (6) for accumulation of dirt and debris. Remove any dirt and debris that is present.

  3. If necessary, loosen mounting clamp (4) and remove the first stage air precleaner assembly to facilitate more thorough cleaning.

    1. Clean the air precleaner assembly with compressed air or wash the air precleaner assembly in warm water.

    2. Dry all of the parts.

    3. Check to see that the internal turbine will spin freely.

  4. If removed, install first stage air precleaner assembly (7) and tighten mounting clamp (4) after cleaning second stage air precleaner (8).

Second Stage Air Precleaner (8)

Second stage air precleaner assembly (8) should be inspected and cleaned whenever first stage air precleaner assembly (7) is removed.

  1. Remove first stage air precleaner assembly (7), if not already removed, by loosening mounting clamp (4).

  2. Inspect inside of second stage air precleaner assembly for accumulation of dirt and debris. Remove any dirt and debris that is present.

  3. Loosen hose clamp (9) and remove hose (10) from fitting on second stage air precleaner assembly. Inspect inside of hose for accumulation of dirt and debris.

Note: Inside of hose (10) should be free of dirt and debris. If dirt and debris are found, a problem with the system that pulls air, dirt, and debris from the second stage air precleaner may be indicated. Consult with youCat dealer if this situation exists.

  4. Install hose (10) on fitting on second stage air precleaner assembly and tighten hose clamp (9).

  5. Install first stage air precleaner (7) assembly and tighten mounting clamp (4).
