Extender - Check and Adjust

Usage:

SE60 V JJ3

------ WARNING! ------

Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.

Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

------ WARNING! ------

In order to prevent personal injury from accidental screed movement, lock the screed in the RAISED position by using the service lock lever to extend the lock pins after the screed is fully raised.

Check Preparation

  1. Verify that the main screed plate is flat and straight prior to performing this procedure. Refer to SE60V Screed, Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, "Screed Plate - Check and Adjust".

Check Procedure

Angle of Attack Check

    Illustration 3g03780050

  3. Place Tool (A) on the surface of main screed plate (4) and the inside end of extender screed plate (3).

Note: Surface of Tool (A) must be in contact with the length of the surface of main screed plate (4).

  4. Tool (A) should touch the trailing edge of extender screed plate (3).

    Illustration 4g03780053

  5. Use extender height raise switch (5) and lower switch (6) to raise and lower the extender, as required. If the trailing edge of extender screed plate (3) can be placed in contact with Tool (A), go to Step 6. If the trailing edge extender cannot be placed in contact with Tool (A), go to "Adjustment Procedure","Extender Adjustment".

    Illustration 5g03780054

  6. Use Tool (D) to measure gap between Tool (A) and the leading edge of the inside of extender screed plate (3). For the correct angle of attack, the gap should be 0 mm (0 inch) to 1 mm (0.0395 inch). If the angle of attack is correct, go to Step 7. If the angle of attack is incorrect, go to "Adjustment Procedure","Extender Adjustment".

  7. Place Tool (A) on the surface of main screed plate (4) and the outside end of extender screed plate (3).

  8. The trailing edge of extender should touch Tool (A).

  9. If the trailing edge of extender screed plate (3) is in contact with Tool (A), go to Step 10. If the trailing edge extender is not in contact with Tool (A), go to "Adjustment Procedure","Extender Adjustment".

    Illustration 8g03780082

  10. Use Tool (D) to measure gap between Tool (A) and the leading edge of the outside of extender screed plate (3). For the correct angle of attack, the gap should be 0 mm (0 inch) to 1 mm (0.0395 inch). If the angle of attack is correct, go to "Screed Plate Flatness Check". If the angle of attack is incorrect, go to "Adjustment Procedure","Angle of Attack Adjustment".

Screed Plate Flatness Check

    Illustration 9g03780086

  1. Place Tool (B) across the width of trailing edge of extender screed plate (3) approximately 25.4 mm (1 inch) in front of the trailing edge.

  2. Place two of Tool (C) between Tool (B) and extender screed plate (3). Locate each Tool (C) below the first adjuster at each end of the extender screed plate.

  3. Use third Tool (C) as a gauge in order to check the flatness of extender screed plate (3).

  4. If there is any space between Tool (B) and the third Tool (C), go to "Adjustment Procedure","Screed Plate Extender Flatness Adjustment". If there is no space between Tool (B) and Tool (C), remove the tooling.

Adjustment Procedure

Note: Verify that the main screed plate is flat and straight prior to performing this procedure. refer to Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, "Screed Plate - Check and Adjust".

  1. Retract all trailing edge adjusters (7), including the end adjusters, in order to place the screed plates tight against the machined frame.

    Illustration 11g03780092

  2. Loosen nuts (8) on top of all trailing edge adjusters (7). Turn the trailing edge adjuster counterclockwise to retract the adjuster.

  3. Tighten nut (8).

  4. Use proportional extender switch (2) to move the extender out to 76 mm (3 inch) from full extension.

    Illustration 13g03780100

Note: Only rotate the slope stop enough to disengage from the extender. If the slope stop is rotated past this point, the extender could contact and damage the stop when the extender is retracted.

  5. Loosen locknut (10). Turn bolt (9) in order to disengage slope stop (11). Swing the slope stop out of the way.

Note: Surface of Tool (A) must be in contact with the length of the surface of main screed plate (4).

    Illustration 16g03780053

  7. Using Tool (A) as a guide, adjust the height of the extender. Use extender height raise switch (5) and lower switch (6) to adjust the height of the extender.

  8. The trailing edge of the inside of extender screed plate (3) should be flush with main screed plate (4).

Note: If the trailing edge of the extender screed plate does not contact Tool (A), go to "Angle of Attack Adjustment". Adjust the angle of attack so the trailing edge of the extender screed plate is in contact with Tool (A).

  9. Remove Tool (A).

  14. Remove Tool (A).

    Illustration 21g03780098

  15. Use proportional extender switch (2) to extend the extender to 76 mm (3 inch) from full extension.

  16. Repeat Step 6 through Step 15 until no further height and slope adjustment is necessary. Then, go to Step 17.

    Illustration 22g03780100

  17. When the extender height and slope are correct, position slope stop (11). Extend bolt (9) and tighten locknut (10).

    Illustration 23g03780135
