Hydrax Oil Supply And Return Tube Support Clip Failure Caterpillar

THIS TIB REPLACES THE SEPTEMBER 29, 1999 ENGINE TIB, COMPONENT CODES 1057, 1307. DESTROY THE SEPTEMBER 29, 1999, TIB. IT WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE SEMI-ANNUAL INDEX.

Problem:

There have been some reports of failures of the support clips for the HYDRAX System oil supply and return tubes. After the clip fails, the tube can vibrate. Excessive vibration may result in a fatigue failure of the tube near the connector end. A failed clip can also wear into the vibrating tube.

Solution:

The clips and tubes identified in Illustrations 1 and 2 should be inspected. Replace the clips and/or tubes if there appears to be any visual damage. Illustration 1 identifies the components to be inspected on "Inline" engines. Illustration 2 identifies the components to be inspected on "Vee" engines.

If components are replaced, adjustments to the clips, tubes, bracketing, and tightening procedure should be made to minimize the stress on the loop clips.

A production "fix" is currently being evaluated and will be implemented as soon as possible.
