Introduction

This Special Instruction is used for installing the fuel filtration kits on migrated 12M Series 2, 140M Series 2, and 160M Series 2 Motor Graders.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

1. Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position.

2. Use a 185-3630 Strap Wrench As in order to remove the fuel filter. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Primary Filter (Water Separator) Element - Replace".

3. Disconnect the hose assemblies that carry fuel to and from the fuel filter base. Disconnect harness assemblies and remove the connecting hardware.

4. Remove the bolts that secure the existing filter base and remove the filter base.

5. Remove the parts listed in Table 1 from the fuel filter base being removed.

6. Install the reused parts from Table 1 and the new parts listed in Table 2 onto the 434-3158 Fuel Priming Pump and Primary Filter Gp . The parts locations are shown in Illustration 1.

Door Hinge Modification

If the door hinge requires modification due to the installation of the new primary fuel filter/ water separator, use the dimensions listed below. These dimensions are used to remove material from the 332-1938 Plate to allow for extra clearance. The 332-1938 Plate is part of the 440-0104 Access Door As .
