Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.

Obtain S·O·S samples as close as possible to the recommended sampling interval. In order to receive the full effect of S·O·S analysis, a consistent trend of data must be established. In order to establish a pertinent history of data, perform consistent samplings that are evenly spaced. Supplies for collecting samples can be obtained from your Cat dealer.

1. Park the machine on a level surface.

2. Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".

   Note: Take the oil sample when the engine is running at an idle. The engine must be running in order to drive the lubrication pump for the final drive.

3. Obtain an oil sample for the right side final drive through sampling valve (1).

4. Obtain an oil sample for the left side final drive through sampling valve (2).

5. Submit the sample for S·O·S analysis.
