Introduction

This Special Instruction contains the parts list and procedures for installation of heated end gates on certain Asphalt Screeds.

Note: Cannot be used with bolt-on extensions

Procedure

  1. Remove end gates from machine. Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly procedure for your machine.

  1. Remove end gate wear plates (shoe). Wear Plates will not be reused. Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly procedure for your machine

  1. Weld Mounting Plates (7) and (8) using a 6 mm (0.24 inch) fillet weld. Refer to Illustrations 5 and 6.

  1. Weld three 9R-9866 Threaded Boss (22) to the end gate. Use a 6 mm (0.24 inch) fillet weld. Refer to Illustrations 7 and 8.

  1. Weld one Boss (19), one Weld Boss (20), and one Threaded Boss (22) to End gate Support. Use a 6 mm (0.24 inch) fillet weld all the way around the outside of the item being welded. Refer to Illustration 9.

  1. Assemble the end gate. Refer to Illustration 11. Apply Thermal Grease (23) between Heater As (2) and end gate. Thermal Grease (23) bead should be 10 mm (0.39 inch) wide by 5 mm (0.20 inch) deep.

  1. Clamp Heater to end gate before tightening bolt. Refer to Illustration 12.

  1. Connect Wires to Heating Element and install connector to clip. Refer to Illustration 13.

  1. Attach ground wire with Bolt (15) and Hard Washer (16). Refer to Illustration 13.

  1. Attach cover with three mounting bolts

  1. Route wires between welded-on bosses and install cover. Refer to Illustration 14.

  1. Route wires down into the heater compartment and plug in. Refer to Illustration 15.

  1. Route harness and install cover. Refer to Illustrations 16 and 17.

  1. Connect plug to 9U-3672 Plug As .

  1. Change ECM setting with web GPI:

    • 2.0 minutes on extender

    • 0.5 minutes for end gate

    • Cannot be used with bolt-on extensions
