- Off-Highway Truck:
- 793D (S/N: FDB1-UP)
Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Low altitude 793D off-highway truck engines with the 424-2194 Engine Harness As and ribbed adapters in the connectors at the engine ECM have experienced some problems with excessive wear on the harness wires. Internal ribs in some adapters can wear through the harness wires and cause various electrical problems.

Solution

(1) The original adapter |
- Remove the cover from the connector.
- Remove the existing adapter (1) from the harness assembly and connector.
- If harness assembly braiding is short in this area, wrap the unbraided harness assembly section with splicing tape (2) .
Note: Stretch and wrap the splicing tape tightly around the unbraided harness assembly section at least two full wraps, but not so many wraps as to fit too tightly inside the connector when installed with the 9X-7462 Grommets .

(2) 290-8070 Tape |
Note: 3M Scotch Linerless Rubber Splicing Tape 130C is equivalent to the 290-8070 Tape .
- Install two grommets (3) around the harness assembly.
