PROBLEM
Engine oil pump housings have oversized bushing bores resulting in insufficient press fit of the shaft bushing on certain 3512, 3512B, 3512C, 3516, 3516B, 3516C, G3512B, G3516B, G3516C, G3516H, G3520B, G3520C, G3520E Generator Sets, and PM3516 Power Modules. If the shaft bushing pushes out of the housing the engine will experience a sudden loss of oil pressure. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Step 1: Locate the following engine oil pump part numbers. |

Image2 |
Step 1 - Locate Part Numbers Locate the following engine oil pump part numbers. 1069872, 4P5638, 2731587, 2456771, 2731588, 3725733, 3954207, 7W0053, 2315127 Step 2 - Identify Pump Variant Identify the suspect pumps by looking for a series of small dimples at the lower base of the pump. The number of dimples can vary from 1 to 7. Regardless of count, if a dimple is present, the pump is suspect. Place a mirror on the backside of the oil pump body between the side of the engine block and the backside of the oil pump. Using a flash light review the Julian date on the pump body to verify if it is suspect and will need replaced. See Image 5 below. Step 3 - Remove by Julian Date Remove all pumps identified in "Step 2" that have a Julian Date of 13152 - 13234. See Image 6 below Removal of Fuel Pump 1.Remove Fuel Lines from fuel transfer pump 2.Remove Fuel transfer pump 3.Ensure drive coupling remains on fuel transfer pump 4.Drain the coolant into a suitable container for storage 5.Remove fuel line assemblies (Item 1) 6.Remove bolts. (Items 2, 4 and 5) 7.Remove adapter and gaskets (Item 3) Removal of Oil Pump 1.Remove bolts for elbow on top of oil pump 2.Attach a suitable lifting device to engine oil pump (Item 8). The weight of the oil pump is approximately 42 kg or 93 lbs 3.Remove pump mounting bolts (Items 9) to remove pump from front housing 4.Remove oil pan flange bolts (Item 10) on bottom of pump Installation of New Oil Pump 1.Ensure o-ring is in place for oil pump mount at front housing 2.Push flange on top of oil pan to pump adaptor down to flush with adaptor 3.Use caution not to push flange past o-ring on adaptor 4.Apply clean engine oil to the o-ring seal and install on flange (Item 11) 5.Apply clean engine oil to the o-ring seal and install on elbow (Item 7) 6.Lubricate the engine oil pump with clean engine oil 7.Before installing the engine oil pump, ensure the shaft of the pump will turn by hand 8.Attach a suitable lifting device to engine oil pump (8) 9.Align the splines of the engine oil pump with the splines of the drive for the engine oil pump 10.Position the engine oil pump on the front housing and install bolts (Items 9) 11.Install lower flange bolts (Items 10) 12.Install upper flange bolts (Items 6) Reinstalling the Fuel Pump 1.Install Fuel transfer pump to oil pump 2.Ensure pump drive coupling (Item 1) spline lines up on transfer pump and also into oil pump 3.Ensure o-ring seal (Item 2) is on transfer pump 4.Position the gaskets and adapter (Item 3) 5.Install bolts (Items 4, 5 and 2) 6.Install tube assemblies (Item 1) and the brackets 7.Fill the cooling system |
