Reference: Service Manual
When installing a short block or a crankshaft assembly, it may be necessary to change the idler gear assembly. Use the following procedure to determine if it is necessary to change the idler gear assembly.
(1) If the new crankshaft assembly is equipped with a single wide gear (2), a 2W442 Idler Gear Assembly must be used. The 2W442 Idler Gear Assembly can be used with either gear (1) or gear (2). Install the idler gear as shown in the Service Manual.
NOTE: Be sure to align the timing marks on the crankshaft, idler gear and camshaft as shown in the Service Manual.
