Proper Checking For Refrigerant Leaks Ensures Maximum Service Life Of Refrigerant Compressor {1802,1809,7320}

Usage:

Caterpillar Machines With Air Conditioning

Refrigerant compressors should not be replaced solely based on the presence of an oily residue around the clutch and pulley area. The shaft seal on 3E-3768, and 0R-6756 Refrigerant Compressors, as well as 7N-4297, and 0R-5739 Clutch and Refrigerant Compressors is lubricated internally during operation by a supply of oil. The shaft seal is designed to allow some seepage of the oil for lubricating purposes. A shaft seal leak can only be determined by the following procedure:

1. Ensure that refrigerant is in the system. Determine the presence of refrigerant in the system by feeling the suction line to see if it is cold.

2. Turn off the engine.

------ WARNING! ------

Pressure air can cause personal injury.

-------WARNING!-------

3. Clean the area around the refrigerant compressor clutch area with pressure air. Ensure that all dirt and oil accumulations are removed.

4. Allow the system to set for five minutes without operating the compressor.

5. Using a Caterpillar approved refrigerant leak detector, move the sensing probe around all areas below the clutch and pulley.

6. If a leak is detected, replace the refrigerant compressor by following the procedures in the service manuals referenced above.
