Improved Fuel Pump Bonnet Seal Has Better Heat Resistance {1251}

Usage:

All Caterpillar Machines Powered By 3408 and 3412 Machine Engines And Some 3204 And 3300 Machine Engines

Description of Change: A new fuel pump bonnet seal is available on the engines in the above machines. The former fuel pump bonnet seal could lose its sealing capability when exposed to above normal temperatures (heat) for extended periods of time. The high temperatures can cause the seal to lose its shape and become brittle. The new seal material has a greater resistance to heat and thus improves the reliability and life of the seal.

Location of new 114-8718 Seal (fuel pump bonnet) used on some 3204 and 3300 Engines with new scroll fuel systems. Also used on all 3408 and 3412 Machine Engines. This illustration is intended to depict the location of the 114-8718 Seal only. Some of the other fuel injection pump components may not currently look like those in the illustration.

Adaptable To: The new 114-8718 Seal is a direct replacement for the former 6V-6228, 7E-4846, and 3D-2992 Seals. The only difference between the new 114-8718 Seal and the former 6V-6228 Seal is the blue teflon coating on the new seal. The blue teflon coating provides lubrication during assembly that helps prevent cutting the seal.
