Reference: SEHS9615 Servicing DT Connectors
Description of Change: To improve reliability, serviceability, and to reduce service inventories, some switches with screw terminals or Sure Seal connectors are being replaced by switches with wire leads and a DT connector. The following chart LISTS some of the switches affected by this change.
To retrofit a new switch to an older machine that uses a previous switch, cut the previous connector off the machine harness and install a mating DT connector. This will allow the machine to use the new switch in the future without any other harness modifications. To change the connector on the machine harness, a 102-8807 Plug Kit and two 8T-8730 Sockets need to be installed for each switch changed. The individual connector parts are also available in a 9U-7246 Kit. A 1U-5804 Crimp Tool is needed to crimp the terminals on the harness wires. Special Instruction SEHS9615 has detailed instructions for the servicing of DT connectors.
Where a single terminal switch such as the 6N-5899 Temperature Switch is replaced, one of the terminals of the new connector will have to be connected to a good machine ground. Use the appropriate length of 5P-5623 Wire and a ring terminal of the correct size. Assorted sizes of terminals can be found in the 1P-2305 Terminal Kit.
When the installation of the DT connector on the machine harness is complete, secure the mated DT connectors to the machine with a 3S-2093 Tie-Wrap. Tighten the tie-wrap by hand or use a 4C-5877 Tool which tightens and cuts off the excess tie wrap.
Adaptable To: This change is adaptable to various models that use the non-current switches that are listed in the following chart.
