  1. Remove ten bolts (11), ten hard washers (12), and one plate assembly (13). Retain all hardware.

  2. Remove 11 bolts (14), 11 hard washers (15), one plate (16), and one plate assembly (17). Retain all hardware.

  3. Clean the mating surface of yoke assembly (18) free of wax, dirt, debris, paint, and grease.

    Note: Do not separate the drive shaft. Drive shafts are assembled with the u-joints in phase for balancing purposes. If the drive shaft must be separated, use a paint pen to make aligning marks on both sides of the slip joint. When re-assembling the drive shaft, make sure the aligning marks match to ensure proper u-joint phasing and balance performance.

  4. Clean the mating surfaces of slip joint (1) free of wax, dirt, debris, paint, and grease. Repeat for the opposite side.

    (B) Suitable Cribbing ( 203 mm (8 inch) Length X 102 mm (4 inch) Width X 102 mm (4 inch) Height)

    Note: Install slip joint prior to installation of the rear axle for optimal access.

  5. Attach a suitable lifting device to slip joint (1). The weight of slip joint (1) is approximately 240 kg (530 lb). Position slip joint (1) into the tunnel of the drive shaft guards. Lower slip joint (1) onto the tunnel of the drive shaft guards.

  6. Attach two suitable lifting devices to position slip joint (1).

  7. Install slip joint (1) to the torque converter with four bolts (2).

    Note: Install four bolts (2) to secure slip joint (1). The four bolts (2) will be torqued at a later time.

  8. Lower slip joint (1) onto Tooling (B). Remove the suitable lifting devices.

  9. Cut the strap that secures slip joint (1) from extending.

  10. Clean the bearing bores of lower link groups (3) free of wax, dirt, debris, paint, and grease. Apply Tooling (A) to the bearing bores of lower link group (3). Repeat for the remaining lower link groups.

  11. Clean the surface of pin (4) free of wax, dirt, debris, paint, and grease. Repeat for the remaining pins.

  12. Remove the protective covers from the pin bores. Clean the pin bores free of wax, dirt, debris, paint, and grease. Use Tooling (D) to clean the threads of the two threaded holes. Apply Tooling (A) to the pin bores. Repeat for the remaining lower link groups. Repeat for the remaining pin bores.

  13. Attach a suitable lifting device to pin (4). The weight of pin (4) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb). Install pin (4) so the grease fitting is facing towards the center of the machine. Install pin (4) in the outer bore of the chassis. Repeat for the remaining three pins.

    Note: Leaving the pins partially in place avoids lifting the pins into place separately.

    Note: Ensure pins (4) are oriented with the grease ports upward.

  14. Attach a suitable lifting device to lower link group (3). The weight of lower link group is approximately 308 kg (680 lb). Position lower link group (3) and install pin (4). Install one plate (5), one plate (6), four hard washers (7), and four bolts (8). Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to support lower link group (3). Repeat for the other side.

  15. Attach a suitable lifting device to lower link group (3). The weight of lower link group is approximately 308 kg (680 lb). Position lower link group (3) and install pin (4). Install one plate (5), one plate (6), four hard washers (7), and four bolts (8). Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to support lower link group (3). Repeat for the other side.

  16. Apply Tooling (E) to the threads of cap (9). Install one cap (9) onto pin (4). Repeat for the three remaining pins.

  18. Remove three bolts (28), three hard washers (27), and plate (26). Remove six bolts (29), six hard washers (30), and plate (31). Reposition pin (32) in the inner bore of the rear axle. Repeat for the remaining pin. Retain all the hardware.

  20. Attach a suitable lifting device to rear suspension group (34). The weight of rear suspension group (34) is approximately 480 kg (1060 lb). Raise rear suspension group (34). Secure rear suspension group (34) to the chassis in a horizontal position with a suitable lifting device. Repeat for the other side.

  21. Attach a suitable lifting device to power train arrangement (10). The weight of power train arrangement (10) is approximately 25760 kg (56800 lb). Position power train arrangement (10).

    Note: Support the rear axle with suitable cribbing before removing any lifting device.

  22. Use Tooling (C) to align the bores of power train arrangement (10) and lower link group (3) Install one pin (22), one plate (25), two hard washers (24), two bolts (23), one plate (21), two hard washers (20), and two bolts (19). Repeat for the remaining lower link groups.

  23. Remove Tooling (C).

  24. Attach a suitable lifting device to rear suspension group (34). The weight of rear suspension group (34) is approximately 480 kg (1060 lb). Lower rear suspension group (34). Align the bores of rear suspension group (34) and the power train arrangement. Install pin (32), one plate (31), six hard washers (30), and six bolts (29). Repeat for the other side.

    Note: Ensure pins (32) are oriented with the grease ports towards the axle housing.

  25. Lower power train arrangement (10) onto suitable cribbing. Remove the suitable lifting device from the power train arrangement (10).

  26. Connect pressure sensor group (33). Repeat for the other side.

    Note: Use a suitable rubber or wood hammer to seat the u-joints in the yoke of the transmission and the yoke of the torque converter. Ensure the u-joints are fully seated prior to tighten bolts (2) to the final torque.

  27. Install slip joint (1) to the transmission with four bolts (2). Tighten eight bolts (2) in a cross pattern to a torque of 775 ± 40 N·m (572 ± 30 lb ft).
