Safety Messages

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your authorized dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not service the machine while the machine is in autonomous mode. Failure to place the machine in manual mode for service can result in a crushing hazard. Death or injury may occur if the machine is in autonomous mode while servicing. Put the machine in manual mode. Verify that the machine is in manual mode prior to servicing the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

While operating under active autonomous control, the machine may move without warning which could result in serious personal injury or death. Maintain a safe distance from the machine when the machine is operated in autonomous control mode. Personnel who may need to work in the area of an autonomous control machine must know and understand the external mode indicators, job site procedures, A-Stop operation, and approach the machine only when safe to do so.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not enter the area where the autonomous machine is operating. Entering the area of an autonomous machine while the machine is under autonomous control may result in serious injury or death. Stay clear of the area where the autonomous machine is operating.

------ WARNING! ------

Autonomous trucks cannot detect obstacles that enter the path of travel while traveling in reverse gear. Entering the path of travel of a reversing autonomous truck can result in serious injury or death. Use extreme caution around autonomous trucks operating in reverse and remain a safe distance away from the trucks path of travel.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not enter the path of an autonomous vehicle at a 90 degree angle. The truck perception system will not trigger a stop condition until the obstacle is in the path of travel. The truck may not have enough time to come to a safe stop to avoid the collision. Entering the path of an autonomous truck can result in serious injury or death.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not approach an autonomous truck if the blue mode light is illuminated (solid or flashing). Approaching a truck while the blue mode light is illuminated can result in serious injury or death. Remain a safe distance from autonomous trucks.

------ WARNING! ------

All non-autonomous equipment, including autonomous trucks operated manually, that enter the area of autonomous operation must have functioning site awareness equipment and be tracked by the Cat MineStar System. Moving non-autonomous equipment into the area of autonomous operation can greatly increase the risk for a collision that may result in serious injury or death. Do not move non-autonomous equipment into the area of autonomous operation with site awareness equipment that is not present, not functioning, or powered off.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not perform a mode change to autonomous mode while an object is in a blind spot of an autonomous mining truck (AMT). Changing modes while an object is in a blind spot could result in an impact hazard resulting in serious injury or death. Ensure that all areas surrounding the AMT are free of any objects prior to performing the mode change.

------ WARNING! ------

Inaccurate measurement of a machine (including light vehicles) can result in performance and safety degradation. Personal injury or death can result.

Measurements smaller than the machine will result in the positioning system being unaware of extruding portions of the machines. This could result in physical contact between machines. Dimensions larger than the actual machine dimensions will result in blockage and false perceptions by the autonomous positioning and perception systems. This will result in improper stoppages and truck redirections.

To avoid these and other situations, ensure that this measure up procedure and verification procedure are performed accurately.

------ WARNING! ------

When operating a machine utilizing Terrain for grading and loading or using Detect, allow for proper start-up time. Before moving the machine within the area of autonomous operation, review the status bar and ensure that the on-board radio module and the satellite receiver are functioning and reliable. Moving the machine before the machine has established good radio communications, established an accurate position, and updated the mine model can cause the machine to not be seen by the autonomous mining truck and other equipment operating in the autonomous area which may result in serious injury or death.

------ WARNING! ------

The Proximity Awareness system is highly configurable. Depending on site configuration settings within Detect Office, certain visual and/or audible alerts may not function for a particular event. Work with your supervisor to understand the alert behavior prior to using the system. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death.

The information that is contained in this manual is additional to the owners documentation and the Operation and Maintenance Manual that is provided with the machine. Use the information in this manual in addition to previous owner documents. Do not use the information in this manual as a replacement for any of the original documentation.

Prior to operation of the machine read the Operation and Maintenance Manual.

Conduct a risk assessment for autonomous operation, establish layers of protection in and around the area of the autonomous machines, and establish safe job site procedures. Examples include personnel training, warning signs, and barricades.

Operation

Clear all personnel from the machine and from the area.

Clear all obstacles from the path of the machine. Beware of possible hazards.

Clean all windows.

Secure the doors and the windows.

If the machine is equipped with rear view mirrors, then adjust the mirrors according to the specifications of the Operation and Maintenance Manual.

Make sure that the horn, the travel alarm (if equipped), and all other warning devices are working properly.

Prior to operating the machine, ensure that the brightness of the display is properly adjusted. Ensure that the brightness is adjusted after changes in the conditions for ambient light.

Fasten the seat belt securely.

Warm up the engine and the hydraulic oil before operating the machine.

Only operate the machine while you are in a seat.

Before operating the machine, fasten your seat belt. The seat belt must be fastened while you operate the machine.

Only operate the controls while the engine is running.

Before moving the machine, ensure that no one will be endangered. Operate the machine slowly in an open area and check for proper operation of all controls and all protective devices.

Do not allow riders on the machine unless the machine has the following equipment:

  • Additional seat

  • Additional seat belt

  • Roll over Protective Structure (ROPS)

Note any needed repairs during machine operation. Report any needed repairs.

Avoid any conditions that can lead to tipping the machine. The machine can tip when you work on hills, on banks, and on slopes. Also, the machine can tip when you cross ditches, ridges, or other unexpected obstructions.

Avoid operating the machine across the slope. When possible, operate the machine up a slope and down a slope.

Maintain control of the machine.

Do not overload the machine beyond the machine capacity.

Be sure that the hitches and the towing devices are adequate.

Never straddle a wire cable. Never allow other personnel to straddle a wire cable.

Before you maneuver the machine, make sure that no personnel are between the machine and the trailing equipment.

Always keep the Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) installed during machine operation.
