Description of Change: New self locking bolts are used to fasten the cylinder block side covers. Formerly, self locking bolts were not used. The new bolts will help prevent loosening and keep the cylinder block side covers secure.
Location of new 9X8872 Self Locking Bolts (1) and cylinder block side covers (2) in a typical cylinder block side cover group.
Adaptable To: New 9X8872 Self Locking Bolts are direct replacement for the former 0L1351 Bolts in the cylinder block side cover groups used on the above engines and machines. Forty eight 9X8872 Self Locking Bolts are required for each cylinder block side cover group on the 3512 Engines in 785 Trucks. Sixty four 9X8872 Self Locking Bolts are required for each cylinder block side cover group on the 3516 Engines in 789 and 793 Trucks, and 994 Tractors. The new self locking bolt is in effect as follows:

NOTE: If the new bolts are to be reused, apply 9S3263 Thread Lock to the bolt threads.
