Equipment Lowering with Engine Stopped

Usage:

MH3049 HPB

Cab Lowering Control Valve

------ WARNING! ------

CRUSH HAZARD

Keep all personnel away from the machine when lowering the cab.

Failure to heed this warning can cause personal injury or death.

NOTICE

When the cab is lowered manually, the cab travel can be stopped by parts of the machine or obstructions. Damage may occur to the cab, machine components, or objects that are in the cab lowering path.

If the engine is shut down or the hydraulic system is disabled the cab can be lowered manually from the operator station or from the ground level.

Operator Station

When you must manually lower the cab at cab level, use the following procedure.

(1) Control valve for the cab secondary lift linkage
(2) Control valve for the cab main (extend/retract) lift linkage

The cab lowering control valves are located in the cab near the base of the seat. The cab lowering control valves allow the operator to lower the cab if the engine is stopped or the hydraulic system has been disabled.

  1. Rotate and hold the cab lowering control knobs. The cab will lower until the cab reaches the ground, or the cab is stopped by part of the machine, or an obstruction.

Note: The cab will descend regardless of the cab position over the undercarriage.

  2. Release the cab lowering control knobs to stop the cab.

  3. Before operating the machine, make any necessary repairs.

For additional information, consult your Cat dealer.

Ground Level

When you must manually lower the cab at ground level, use the following procedure.

Typical example

The cab lowering control valves are on the left side of the machine. The cab lowering control valves allow the cab to be lowered from ground level if the engine is stopped or the hydraulic system has been disabled.

Boom Lowering Control Valve

------ WARNING! ------

Boom load may cause cylinder oil pressure to reach relief pressure of the boom lowering control device when the boom is supported by one cylinder. Boom can lower suddenly, causing possible injury or death.

To avoid possible injury or death, be sure no one is under or near the work tool before manually lowering the boom.

Keep all personnel away from the boom drop area when lowering the boom with the engine stopped.

If the engine is shut down or the hydraulic system is disabled, the operator can still lower the boom. Use the following procedure if the machine is equipped with a boom lowering control valve.

Illustration 3g03641931
Typical example

The boom lowering control valve is installed on each of the boom cylinders. The boom lowering control valve allows the operator to lower the boom if the engine is stopped. The boom lowering control valve also prevents the sudden descent of the boom if there is an oil leak in the hydraulic line of the boom.

  1. Slowly, turn the valve (2) counter-clockwise.

The boom will lower to the ground when the boom lowering control device is opened.

  2. Make sure that the work tool has been lowered onto the ground.

  3. Tighten valve (1).

  4. Before operating the machine, make any necessary repairs.

For additional information, consult your Cat dealer.
