变速箱转速传感器从动力传动系电子控制模块（动力传动系 ECM）接收电力。 变速箱转速传感器使用此电流和电力向动力传动系 ECM 发送一个信号。 转速传感器 (1) 读取分动器 (2) 的转速。 分动器 (2) 有 68 个齿。 分动器 (2) 接收从变矩器输出的驱动轴转速。
转速传感器 (3) 读取传感器转子 (6) 的转速。 传感器转子 (6) 有 30 个齿。 驱动适配器 (4) 连接至变速箱的功率输出装置和转速驱动轴 (5) 。 驱动适配器 (4) 通过转速驱动轴 (5) 将转速发送至传感器转子 (6) 。
齿的转速会确定变速箱转速传感器发送给动力传动系 ECM 的信号。 该信号通知机器上转速的动力传动系 ECM。 行驶速度变化时，来自转速传感器的信息和来自拨杆开关的信息允许变速箱换档。 变速箱会自动换档，直到来自变速箱档位开关的信息通知动力传动系 ECM 停止自动换档。
通常，变速箱不会换入比变速箱控制装置上选择的速度档更高的速度档。 在超速情况期间，变速箱会升一档，或者解锁变矩器。
当变速箱转速传感器的信号指示降档时，动力传动系 ECM 将自动降档。
