Description of Change: A procedure to improve the articulation cylinder pin joint on 14M Motor Graders is now being used. Adding new seals, bearings, washers, and anti-seize compound will prevent the articulation bushings from wearing at low machine hours.
Adaptable To: Table 1 shows the parts that are required for this procedure. This change is adaptable to the following machines:
- 14M (S/N: B9J105-1450; R9J100-173)
- 14M (S/N: B9J1451-UP; R9J174-UP)

Washer Placement Procedure
Note: This washer placement procedure is meant to be read in entirety, before installing any shims. The goal of this procedure is to fit as many shims into the joint as possible.
Consider all of the steps in this procedure, concurrently, as the washers are added to the articulation cylinder area.
Focus on one clevis at a time. Each end of the cylinder should be shimmed individually until space is depleted for the washers. Complete shimming before moving on to the other end of the articulation cylinder.
Shims must be always at four locations. If needed, install shims until void is filled. These locations are shown in Illustrations 7 and 12.
Installation of the washers must start on the rod end of the articulation cylinder first.
Installation of Washers for the Rod End of the Articulation Cylinder
- The rod end of the articulation cylinder is shown at location (G) in Illustrations 7 and 8. Installation of washers (5) should start on the bottom of the rod end (H) of the articulation cylinder.

- Install washer (5) at the first location (H) at the bottom of the rod end of the articulation cylinder.
- Install washer (5) at the second location (F) on the top of the rod end of the articulation cylinder.
- If an odd number of washers in the joint is necessary, place the extra washer at the bottom area of the clevis joint.

- Referring to Illustration 9, install washer (5) to location (H) first. Next, install washer (5) to location (F). Alternate from bottom (H) to top (F) until the joint cannot accept anymore washers (5) .
- Referring to Illustrations 10 and 11, after installation of the washers is completed, insert pin assembly (S). Reuse cotter pin (J), bushing (K), hard washer (L), and bolt (M) in order to secure the articulation cylinder to the frame.
Note: This step must be completed before moving on to the head end of the articulation cylinder.

Installation of Washers for the Head End of the Articulation Cylinder
Note: Installation of the washers for the head end must be completed after the installation of washers on the rod end of the articulation cylinder.
- The head end of the articulation cylinder is shown at location (N) in Illustration 12. Installation of washers (5) should start on the bottom of the head end (R) of the articulation cylinder.

- Install washer (5) at the third location (R) on the bottom of the head end of the articulation cylinder.
- Install washer (5) at the fourth location (P) on the top of the head end of the articulation cylinder.
- Use washers (5) to verify the amount that will be needed to shim the articulation cylinder correctly.
