AccuGrade® Grade Control System For Skid-Steer Loader, Multi-Terrain Loader and Compact Track Loader Caterpillar

Operational Problems

Usage:

256C DWS

The AccuGrade System Drops out of Automatic Mode

Probable Causes

  • The auto/manual switch assembly has failed.

  • The machine has been placed in NEUTRAL for more than 60 seconds.

  • A machine interlock has been violated. Ensure that the door is closed (if equipped), an operator is present, hydraulics are enabled and the parking brake is deactivated

  • There is a machine fault that has disabled AccuGrade (i.e. faulted solenoid)

  • The operator exited the AccuGrade run time screen in order to view a different screen.

Automatic Mode will not Engage

Probable Causes

  • The parking brake is activated.

  • Communications between the display and the ECM have failed.

  • The laser receiver is not detecting laser strikes.

  • A machine interlock has been violated. Ensure that the door is closed (if equipped), operator present, hydraulics enabled, parking brake deactivated.

  • There is a machine fault that has disabled AccuGrade (i.e. faulted solenoid)

  • Display is not displaying the AccuGrade run time screen.

  • The right hand joystick was not in the neutral position when the trigger was toggled.

Automatic Mode is Unstable

Probable Causes

  • Multiple laser transmitters are operating in the same area.

  • The laser beam is unstable.

  • The laser receivers are detecting a reflection or other light source.

  • The laser transmitter is not secure.

  • The laser transmitter is not setup in a proper location.

  • The battery for the laser transmitter needs to be charged.

  • The laser transmitter needs to be calibrated.

  • The valve speed is set too high.

Grade Indicators do not show On Grade when a Benchmark is Attempted

Probable Causes

  • The laser beam is striking too close to the top or the bottom of the laser receiver. Reposition the receiver or the transmitter so that the beam is closer to the middle of the laser receiver. Next, benchmark the system.

  • The laser receiver does not detect the laser beam.

The Elevation Offset does not Change when the Up Button or the Down Button is pressed

Probable Causes

  • The laser beam is striking too close to the top or the bottom of the laser receiver. Reposition the receiver or the transmitter so that the beam is closer to the middle of the laser receiver and establish the benchmark.

  • The system is configured in cut/fill mode instead of reference mode.

Troubleshooting Erratic Elevation

  • The grade indicators are correcting erratically.

  • The blade does not cut parallel on multiple passes.

  • The lift valves are not receiving any drive signal.

  • The laser transmitter is not setup in a proper location.

  • The battery for the laser transmitter needs to be charged.

  • The laser transmitter needs to be calibrated.

  • The valve speed is set too high.

  • Calibration of the system is required.

The Blade does not Cut Parallel on Multiple Passes

Probable Causes

  • Calibration of the sensor is required.

The Lift Valves are not Receiving any Drive Signal

Probable Causes

The Laser Receiver is not Detected

Probable Causes

  • The wire harness is damaged.

  • The wire connectors are not tight.

  • The termination resistors for the CAN data link are not installed correctly.

  • The laser receiver is not installed.

Troubleshooting the Calibration

Problem List

  • The AccuGrade System will not Calibrate.

The AccuGrade System will not Calibrate

Probable Causes

  • The engine speed is not at high idle.

  • The ECM has failed.

  • The proper safety interlocks for the machine have not been met.

  • A raise or a lower solenoid has failed.

  • The upper and lower blade limits are set too high or too low
