The sliding operator console allows operation from both sides of the machine.

The instrument panel on the operator console contains the following components: left conveyor speed dial (1), right conveyor speed dial (2), conveyor reverse switch (3), left conveyor mode switch (4), right conveyor mode switch (5), left auger mode switch (6), right auger mode switch (7) and auger reverse switch (8) .

Left conveyor speed dial (1) and right conveyor speed dial (2) allow the operator to vary the speed of the conveyors. The speed dial is enabled when the conveyor is operating in the automatic mode. The left dial controls the left conveyor. The right dial controls the right conveyor.

For machines without the conveyor sonic sensors, the conveyor speed dials control the desired conveyor speed as a ratio of the auger speed. The conveyor speed dials are connected to individual potentiometers. The most counterclockwise position of the dials provides the maximum speed differential between the conveyors and the augers. When the dial is in this position, the conveyor operates at the minimum speed. The most clockwise position of the dials provides the minimum speed differential between the conveyors and the augers. When the dials are in this position, the conveyor operates at the maximum speed.

Note: The conveyor sonic sensors are an option that may not be used in all markets.

If the machine is equipped with the optional conveyor sonic sensors, the conveyor speed dials and the height of the material at the back of the conveyors are used to determine the conveyor speed. In this case, the functionality of the conveyor is independent from the functionality of the auger.

Conveyor reverse switch (3) is a two-position toggle switch. This switch allows the operator to reverse the direction of one or both conveyors when the conveyor mode switch is in the AUTOMATIC position. The top position of the switch is the REVERSE position. The bottom position of the switch is the FORWARD position. The conveyor reverse switch provides input signals to the operator control unit. The CAT Data Link transfers switch information from the operator control unit to the machine ECM. When a reverse input signal is present, the machine ECM energizes the left conveyor reverse solenoid on the EDC valve and the right conveyor reverse solenoid on the EDC valve. In this situation, the conveyors operate in reverse at a determined speed that is set within the software.

Left conveyor mode switch (4) and right conveyor mode switch (5) are toggle switches with three positions. These switches control the conveyors. The left switch controls the left conveyor and the right switch controls the right conveyor. The middle position of each switch is the OFF position. The bottom position of each switch is the MANUAL position. The top position of each switch is the AUTOMATIC position.

When a conveyor mode switch is in the OFF position, the associated conveyor does not operate. When a conveyor mode switch is in the AUTOMATIC position, the machine electronic control system uses input from the corresponding conveyor speed dial to operate the associated conveyor. When a conveyor mode switch is in the MANUAL position, the associated conveyor operates at maximum speed. The conveyor mode switches return from the MANUAL position to the OFF position by use of a spring.

Note: The conveyor master switch on the right screed operator panel must be in the AUTOMATIC position in order for right conveyor mode switch (6) to operate in the AUTOMATIC position. The conveyor master switch on the left screed operator panel must be in the AUTOMATIC position in order for left conveyor mode switch (6) to operate in the AUTOMATIC position.

Left auger mode switch (6) and right auger mode switch (7) are toggle switches with three positions. These switches control the left auger and these switches control the right auger. The middle position of each switch is the OFF position. The top position of each switch is the AUTOMATIC position. The bottom position of each switch is the MANUAL position.

When an auger mode switch is in the OFF position, the associated auger does not operate. When an auger mode switch is in the AUTOMATIC position, the machine electronic control system uses input from the corresponding material height sensor and the corresponding material height dial in order to operate the associated auger. When an auger mode switch is in the MANUAL position, the associated auger and the conveyor operate at maximum speed. The auger mode switches return from the MANUAL position to the OFF position by use of a spring.

Note: The conveyor master switch on the right screed operator panel must be in the AUTOMATIC position in order for right auger mode switch (7) to operate in the AUTOMATIC position. The conveyor master switch on the left screed operator panel must be in the AUTOMATIC position in order for left auger mode switch (7) to operate in the AUTOMATIC position.

Auger reverse switch (8) is a momentary toggle switch with three positions. This switch allows the operator to reverse the direction of the augers by one auger at a time when the corresponding auger mode switch is in the AUTOMATIC position. The center position of the switch is the OFF position. The left position of the switch is the LEFT REVERSE position. The right position of the switch is the RIGHT REVERSE position. The switch is spring centered to the OFF position. The auger reverse switch provides input signals to the machine electronic control system. When a reverse input signal is present, the machine electronic control system energizes the corresponding auger reverse solenoid on the EDC valve.

The left screed operator panel contains the following components: left conveyor stop switch (9), left material height dial (11), left conveyor master switch (12) and left auger master switch (13) .

Left conveyor stop switch (9) is a momentary toggle switch with three positions. The conveyor stop switch is used to determine if the left or right conveyors should be moving. The top switch position stops the left conveyor. The bottom switch position stops both conveyors. The center switch position allows both conveyors to move. The conveyor stop switch spring returns to the center switch position. If the switch is moved into the bottom position, the machine electronic control system will not allow the conveyor to move until the switch is cycled through the bottom position again.

Left conveyor stop indicator (10) indicates when both conveyors have been stopped by one of the conveyor stop switches. When the lamp is active, both conveyors are disabled. When the lamp is inactive, movement of the conveyor is allowed.

Left material height dial (11) allows the operator to set the desired height of material in front of the screed. The dial is connected to a potentiometer. The potentiometer provides an input signal to the screed ECM.

The screed ECM compares the input from left material height dial (11) to the input from the sensor which monitors the amount of material at the end of the left auger. The screed ECM transfers this information to the machine ECM through the Cat Data Link. For machines that are equipped with the conveyor sonic sensors, the machine ECM controls the auger independently in order to maintain the desired height of material. For machines without the conveyor sonic sensors, the machine ECM controls the conveyor and the auger simultaneously in order to maintain the desired height of material. The most counterclockwise position of the left material height dial provides the minimum amount of material. The most clockwise position of the left material height dial provides the maximum amount of material.

Note: The auger system on the left side of the machine must be in the AUTOMATIC mode for left material height dial (11) in order to affect the height of material which is at the end of the left auger.

Left conveyor master switch (12) is a momentary toggle switch with three positions. The center switch position is the AUTOMATIC position. The top switch position is the REVERSE position. The bottom switch position is the MANUAL position. The conveyor master switch returns to the AUTOMATIC position from the REVERSE position by use of a spring. The conveyor master switch also returns to the AUTOMATIC position from the MANUAL position by use of a spring.

Left conveyor master switch (12) provides input to the screed ECM. When the left conveyor master switch is in the REVERSE position, the left conveyor will operate in reverse at a predetermined speed that is set within the software. When the left conveyor master switch is in the MANUAL position, the left conveyor will operate at full speed. When the left conveyor master switch is in the AUTOMATIC position, the machine electronic control system uses input signals from left conveyor mode switch (4) and conveyor reverse switch (3) to determine the desired operating mode for the conveyor.

Left auger master switch (13) is a momentary toggle switch with three positions. This switch is used to determine the desired operating mode for the left auger. The middle position of the switch is the AUTOMATIC position. The left switch position is the MANUAL position. The right switch position is the REVERSE position.

When left auger master switch (13) is in the REVERSE position, the left auger will operate in reverse at a predetermined speed that is set within the software. When the left auger master switch is in the AUTOMATIC position, the machine electronic control system uses input from the corresponding sensor and the corresponding material height dial in order to operate the associated auger. When the left auger mode switch is in the MANUAL position, the associated auger operates at maximum speed. The auger master switch returns from the MANUAL position to the AUTOMATIC position by use of a spring.

Note: The left and right augers are never allowed to simultaneously operate in reverse. If the controller receives a command in order to have both sides reverse simultaneously, the augers will only allow the first side that was commanded into reverse to operate in the reverse direction. The command for reverse on the opposite side will be ignored and the auger will continue to function in forward.

The right screed operator panel contains the following components: right material height dial (14), conveyor stop switch (15), right auger master switch (17) and right conveyor master switch (18) .

Right material height dial (14) allows the operator to set the desired height of material in front of the screed. The dial is connected to a potentiometer. The potentiometer provides an input signal to the screed ECM.

The screed ECM compares the input from right material height dial (14) to the input from the sensor which monitors the amount of material at the end of the right auger. The most counterclockwise position of the right material height dial provides the minimum amount of material. The most clockwise position of the right material height dial provides the maximum amount of material.

Note: The auger system on the right side of the machine must be in the AUTOMATIC mode for right material height dial (14) in order to affect the height of material which is at the end of the right auger.

Right conveyor stop switch (15) is a momentary toggle switch with three positions. The conveyor stop switch is used to determine whether the left or right conveyors should be moving. The top switch position stops the right conveyor. The bottom switch position stops both conveyors. The center switch position allows both conveyors to move. The conveyor stop switch returns to the center switch position by use of a spring. If the switch is moved into the bottom position, the machine electronic control system will not allow the conveyors to move until the switch is cycled through the bottom position again.

Right conveyor stop indicator (16) indicates when both conveyors have been stopped by one of the conveyor stop switches. When the lamp is inactive, movement of the conveyor is allowed.

Right auger master switch (17) is a momentary toggle switch with three positions. This switch is used to determine the desired operating mode for the right auger. The middle position of the switch is the AUTOMATIC position. The right switch position is the MANUAL position. The left switch position is the REVERSE position.

When right auger master switch (17) is in the REVERSE position, the right auger will operate in reverse at a predetermined speed that is set within the software. When the right auger master switch is in the AUTOMATIC position, the machine electronic control system uses input from the corresponding sensor and the corresponding material height dial in order to operate the associated auger. When the right auger mode switch is in the MANUAL position, the associated auger operates at maximum speed. The auger master switch returns from the MANUAL position to the AUTOMATIC position by use of a spring.

Note: The left and right augers are never allowed to simultaneously operate in reverse. The augers will only allow the side which was first commanded into reverse to operate in the reverse direction. The command for reverse on the opposite side will be ignored and the auger will continue to function in forward.

Right conveyor master switch (18) is a momentary toggle switch with three positions. The center switch position is the AUTOMATIC position. The top switch position is the REVERSE position. The bottom switch position is the MANUAL position. The conveyor master switch returns to the AUTOMATIC position from the REVERSE position by use of a spring. The conveyor master switch returns to the AUTOMATIC position from the MANUAL position by use of a spring.

Right conveyor master switch (18) provides input to the screed ECM. When the right conveyor master switch is in the REVERSE position, the right conveyor will operate in reverse at a predetermined speed that is set within the software. When the right conveyor master switch is in the MANUAL position, the right conveyor will operate at full speed. When the right conveyor master switch is in the AUTOMATIC position, the machine electronic control system uses input signals from right conveyor mode switch (5) and conveyor reverse switch (3) to determine the desired operating mode for the conveyor.
