Conveyor Speed (Drag) - Check

Usage:

AP-655D GNN
Note: The following procedure describes the steps which are used to check and adjust the conveyor speed on the left side of the machine. The procedure for checking and adjusting the conveyor speed on the right side of the tractor is similar.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts.

Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.

Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.

The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Injury to personnel can result if they are not in the operator's view. Allow only essential personnel near the machine, and make sure the personnel are in the operator's view when testing, to prevent injury. Make sure checks are done in an open area.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

  1. Move propulsion lever (2) to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Rotate speed dial (1) to the MINIMUM position.

  1. Move parking brake switch (3) to the ON position.

    Illustration 2g01424083

  1. Move screed lift switch (4) to the RAISE position. Completely lift the screed.

    Illustration 3g01425319

  1. Engage screed lock mechanism (5) on both sides of the machine.

  1. Move screed lift switch (4) to the FLOAT position.

    Illustration 4g01431877

  1. Move auger height switch (6) to the RAISE position. Fully raise the augers.

    Illustration 5g01432006

  1. Move throttle control switch (7) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.

  1. After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (8) to the OFF position.

    Illustration 6g01432018

  1. Install a small piece of reflective tape (10) from Tool (A) on the left conveyor bearing.

Note: If a photo-tachometer is not available, mark conveyor flight bar (9) with paint or chalk in one location.

  1. Move engine start switch (8) to the START position. Release the engine start switch when the engine starts.

  1. Move throttle control switch (7) to the HIGH IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second. The engine speed should increase to 2200 rpm.

    Illustration 7g01423694

  1. Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature on the operator display. Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43° ± 5.6°C (110° ± 10°F).

    Illustration 8g01432031

  1. Move left conveyor ratio dial (11) to the full clockwise position. Move left conveyor switch (12) to the MANUAL position. Use Tool (A) to measure the speed. Conveyor speed should be 168 ± 5 rpm.

Note: If a photo-tachometer is not available, use a stopwatch to measure the amount of time that is required for the mark on the conveyor flight bar to make one full travel around the conveyor. The time should be 12 ± 1 seconds.

  1. Move left conveyor switch (12) to the OFF position.

  1. Move throttle control switch (7) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.

  1. After the engine reaches low idle, move engine start switch (8) to the OFF position.

  1. If the measured conveyor speed is not within the specified range, refer to Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, KENR6587, "Solenoid Valve (Left Conveyor) - Calibrate".
