A new Shimming Procedure for the Bodies on Large Off-Highway Trucks {7258, 7960}

Usage:

793B 1HL
Off-Highway Truck:
785 (S/N: 8GB1-UP)
785B (S/N: 6HK1-UP)
785C (S/N: 1HW1-UP; APX1-UP; 5AZ1-UP)
789 (S/N: 9ZC1-UP)
789B (S/N: 7EK1-UP)
789C (S/N: 2BW1-UP)
793 (S/N: 3SJ1-UP)
793B (S/N: 1HL1-UP)
793C (S/N: CBR1-UP; 4AR1-UP; ATY1-UP; 4GZ1-UP)
793D (S/N: FDB1-UP)

A new shimming procedure has been developed for use on the listed machines. The new procedure can be used when the machine is assembled and when the body is installed.

Note: If you need a thicker shim, an 8X-3044 Plate that has a thickness of 8 mm (0.3150 inch) can be installed on the machine.

  1. Raise the dump body.

  1. Lower the body slowly. If the body contacts both of the factory installed rocker pads on rockers (B) at the same time then go to Step 7. If the body does not contact both rocker pads (1) at the same time then it will be necessary to install shims (2) under the rocker pads that needs to be raised. Refer to Step 3 in order to install the shims.

Note: If the rocker pads needs to be raised more than 8 mm (0.315 inch), a 8X-3044 Plate can be installed. Refer to Service Magazine, SEPD0861-00, "A New Plate for the Assembly of the Truck Body Is Available".

  1. Raise the dump body and install the proper safety device in order to secure the dump body in the RAISE position.

  1. Remove bolt (3) and washer (4) in three places. Retain the hardware. Add required shims (2) between the top of rocker (B) and pad (1) .

  1. Secure the rocker pads (1) and shim (2). Use the hardware from Step 4.

    Note: Tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Remove the safety device. Repeat Step 1 through Step 5 until both of the rocker pads come into contact with the body at the same time.

  1. Raise or lower the body in order to bring the body and frame rails parallel to each other.

  1. Measure the distance between body rail (A) and frame rail (C) at the front of the body and at the rear of the body. Ensure that the distance between the body rail (A) and the frame rail (C) is equal at the front of the body and at the rear of the body.

  1. Install one pad (1) and the required amount of shims (2) in four places. Install three bolts (3), three washers (4) and three nuts (5) in four places in order to secure the pads and shims. Evenly tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (80 ± 15 lb ft).

Note: Block the body in position when you install the shims and pads.

  1. Repeat Step 9 for the other side.

  1. Remove the block and lower the body to the DOWN position.

  1. Measure the gap between the rocker pads (1) and the body. Add equal amounts of shim (2) to each side in order to take up the gap. Refer to Step 2 for the proper procedure to add shims (2) .

  1. Raise and lower the body in order to make sure that all mounted pads have even contact with the frame.
