(3) This LED pattern indicates an "Error code 2 CAN error". (4) This LED pattern indicates an "Error code 4 Hardware error". |
This diagnostic code is related to the IQAN Lx A1 module. It is displayed when the internal temperature of the module has reached 70 °C (158 °F). This is the maximum operational temperature of the module.
The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
- The status indicator on the module indicates an Error code 2 that is a result of the ambient air temperature being too high.
- The status indicator on the module indicates an Error code 4 that is a result of an error with the temperature sensor that is inside the module.
Test Step 1. CHECK THE INTERNAL TEMPERATURE OF THE MODULE
- Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
- Use the "Info" menu of the IQAN-MDM display modulein order to measure the internal temperature of the IQAN Lx A1 module.
Expected Result:
The internal temperature of the IQAN Lx A1 module is less than 70 °C (158 °F).
Results:
- YES - The internal temperature of the IQAN Lx A1 module is less than 70 °C (158 °F). Proceed to test step 2.
- NO - The internal temperature of the IQAN Lx A1 module is greater than 70 °C (158 °F).
Repair: Allow the module to cool down. Ensure that there is adequate air flow to the module.

Test Step 2. CHECK THE STATUS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE
- Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
- Operate the machine.
- Check the status of the "HIGH TEMPERATURE" code.
Expected Result:
The "HIGH TEMPERATURE" code is active.
Results:
- YES - The "HIGH TEMPERATURE" code is active. The diagnostic code has not been corrected.
Repair: If the diagnostic code is still active, the module may be faulty.Prior to replacing a module, always contact your dealership's Technical Communicator for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the module.
STOP
- NO - The "HIGH TEMPERATURE" code is not active. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time.
Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by an excessive ambient air temperature. Resume normal machine operation.
