Extender Carriage - Check and Adjust

(1) Upper slide shaft

(2) Upper housing assembly

(3) Bolts for the upper housing assembly

(4) Carriage assembly

(5) Bolts for the lower housing assembly

(6) Lower housing assembly

(7) Adjustment nuts for the lower housing assembly

(8) Jam nut

(9) Lower slide shaft

Carriage assembly (4) has two slide shafts and two housing assemblies. Each housing assembly has one bushing that is in contact with a slide shaft. Upper housing assembly (2) slides on upper slide shaft (1). Lower housing assembly (6) slides on lower slide shaft (9). If there is too much play between the housing assemblies, you must adjust the housing assemblies.

    Note: Use Testing and Adjusting, KENR3708-00, "Machine Preperation for Troubleshooting" to place the screed in the null position.

  1. Raise the screed and engage the travel lock.

  1. Remove bolts (10) and plate (11) .

  1. Locate six 8T-8917 Bolts (5) that hold the lower housing assembly (6) to carriage assembly (4) .

    Note: Do not loosen the six upper housing bolts (3). The alignment of the screed will be lost.

  1. Loosen three 1A-4168 Nuts (8) .

  1. Loosen three 8I-0184 Adjustment Nuts (7) .

  1. Loosen six 8T-8917 Bolts (5) for the lower housing assembly. This will allow the extender to relax.

  1. Tighten inner 8I-0184 Adjustment Nut (7) to a torque of 150 ± 10 N·m (110 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Tighten two outer 8I-0184 Adjustment Nuts (7) to a torque of 30 ± 10 N·m (22 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Tighten the three 1A-4168 Nuts (8) to a torque of 200 ± 40 N·m (150 ± 30 lb ft).

  1. Tighten the six 8T-8917 Bolts (5) in the lower housing assembly.

  1. Extend the extender and retract the extender.

  1. When you extend the extender, the screed should travel smoothly.

  1. Repeat this procedure for the left extender.
