An Adjustable Bracket for the Hood Tilt Actuator Is Available {7251}

Usage:

725 AFX
Articulated Truck:
725 (S/N: AFX1-UP; B1L1-UP)
730 (S/N: AGF1-UP; B1M1-UP)
730 EJECTOR (S/N: B1W1-UP)

Description of Change: A new bracket is available for mounting the hood tilt actuator to the frames of the listed machines. The new bracket has slotted mounting holes so that the position of the bracket can be adjusted. Correct adjustment of the bracket will ensure that the hood tilt actuator reaches full retraction when the hood is in the LOWERED position.

Note: Incorrectly adjusted brackets may cause the hood to fail to open. This is the result of the failure of the hood tilt actuator to fully retract when the hood is lowered. This triggers the clutch inside the hood tilt actuator and this stops the hood tilt actuator from subsequently opening. A hood tilt actuator that is in this condition is signified by a ratcheting noise when the control for the hood is moved to the RAISE position.

288-1396 Bracket (1) replaces the former 200-4183 Bracket for use on the listed machines.

The new 288-1396 Bracket is effective on 725 (S/N: B1L706-UP), 730 (S/N: B1M624-UP) and 730 EJECTOR (S/N: B1W197-UP).

The new 288-1396 Bracket is a direct replacement to the former 200-4183 Bracket on all earlier machines that are listed.

Adjustment Procedure for the Hood Tilt Actuator

ReferenceOperation and Maintenance Manual, "Hood Control".

  1. Raise the hood fully.

  1. Place some suitable cribbing under the hood in a position that will allow the hood to lower halfway before the cribbing supports the weight of the hood. lower the hood onto the cribbing. When the hood tilt actuator is fully lowered onto the cribbing, an audible ratcheting noise will be made by the hood tilt actuator's internal clutch.

  1. Loosen bolts (2) that secure bracket (1) to the frame of the machine. Loosen the bolts enough in order to only allow the bracket to just rotate in the slots in the bracket.

    Illustration 3g01248122

  1. Loosen nut (4) that secures guide (3) in position on the right hand side of the machine.

  1. Use the control for the hood in order to raise the hood off the cribbing. The bracket and the hood tilt actuator will move as you perform this Step. Remove the cribbing that props the hood.

  1. Lower the hood fully by using the control for the hood. Ensure that the two sockets that are part of the hood are correctly aligned with the guide on the frame and the guide on bracket (1) when the hood is being lowered.

A typical example that shows the hood tilt actuator with the rod end attached to the bracket.

    This arrangement of the hood tilt actuator is effective on 725 (S/N: B1L505-UP), 730 (S/N: B1M411-UP) and 730 EJECTOR (S/N: B1W185-UP).

  1. Ensure that the hood is fully lowered and that the hood tilt actuator is fully retracted before tightening as many of bolts (2) as possible. When the hood tilt actuator is fully retracted, an audible ratcheting noise will be made by the hood tilt actuator's internal clutch. If this sound is not heard then the hood tilt actuator is not fully retracted. Access to the bolts will be from the underside of the machine. You might not be able to gain access to all the bolts during this Step.

  1. Use the control for the hood in order to raise the hood.

  1. If the hood mated correctly with guide (3) then tighten nut (4) in order to secure the guide in place. Otherwise, adjust the number of 5P-1076 Hard Washers (5) in order to suit the position of the hood and return to Step 1.

  1. Ensure that all bolts (2) for bracket (1) are tightened fully.

  1. Ensure that the hood tilt actuator is working correctly by using the control for the hood to raise the hood and then using the control to lower the hood.
