Description of Change: An additional door latch that can be added to the bottom of the door improves the operation of the door. The additional latch will help prevent the original latch from becoming damaged. The door latch is hard to use when the latch is damaged.

Adaptable To: The new 215-7598 Latch is available. The 215-7598 Latch can be added to the bottom of the door in order to hold the door in place. This will prevent the door from getting damaged. The 215-7598 Latch can be added to the following machines: SLA1-576, SLB1-949, SLC1-699, SLD1-753, JRK1-511, SLE1-3306, SLF1-1305, SLG1-818 and SLH1-350.

The new 215-7598 Latch became effective in production with the following machines: SLA577-UP, SLB950-UP, SLC700-UP, SLD754-UP, JRK512-UP, SLE3307-UP, SLF1306-UP, SLG819-UP and SLH351-UP.

Use the following procedure in order to add a new 215-7598 Latch to the bottom of the door.

Table 1
Needed Parts
Item     Qty     Part Number     Description
1     1     7G-2150     Plate
2     1     215-7598     Latch
3     1     132-8502     Seal
The following weld specifications apply to the procedure.

  • The AWS 5.1 E7018 specifications for carbon steel covered electrodes

  • The AWS 5.18 ER70S-2 specifications for carbon steel covered electrodes

  • The AWS 5.18 ER70S-3 specifications for carbon steel covered electrodes

  • The AWS 5.18 ER70S-6 specifications for carbon steel covered electrodes

  • The AWS 5.18 E7018 carbon steel electrodes and rods for gas shielded arc welding.

  • The AWS 5.2 E7018 carbon steel electrodes for flux coated arc welding.

  • The AWS 5.17 E7018 specifications for carbon steel electrodes and fluxes for submerged arc welding

  1. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Move away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Lower the boom to the ground. Place the transmission in the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

  1. Disconnect the battery or batteries, or isolate the battery or batteries by use of the battery disconnect switch (if equipped).

  1. Open the service door. Hold the service door in the open position by use of the stay that is on the machine.

  1. Before you weld the 7G-2150 Plate (1), clean the area. Remove any paint, grease, or dirt.

  1. Position the 7G-2150 Plate (1). Place the plate (1) 8.0 mm (0.32 inch) from the edge of the door. Position the plate 28.6 mm (1.13 inch) upward from the bottom of the door. Make a 3.0 mm (0.12 inch) weld that is 25.0 to 30.0 mm (0.98 to 1.18 inch) in length on the side of the plate that is indicated.
