Heat exchanger (1) transfers the heat that is provided by combustion to the coolant circuit. Temperature sensor (3) senses the coolant temperature in the heat exchanger of the preheater as electrical resistance. The signal is sent to the control unit for processing. Temperature sensor (4) is a protective device against excessive temperatures. Temperature sensor (4) responds at a coolant temperature higher than 115 °C (240 °F) and switches off the preheater.
The following components are located in housing (2) : heat exchanger (1), temperature sensor (3) (coolant) and temperature sensor (4) (thermal cutout).
