Assembly Procedure

- Inspect all parts and clean all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.
- Inspect all seals. Damaged seals must be replaced. Use new Caterpillar seals for replacement.
- Install check ball (53) and roll pin (54). Check ball (53) must move freely in piston (52) .

- Install lip seal (51) and backup ring (50) on piston (52).
- Install six springs (46) and spacer (48) .

- Use a press to compress springs (46) and install retaining ring (47) .
- Use a press and install bearing (45). Install retaining ring (44) and (55) .

- Coat the separator plates with transmission fluid. Install the six clutch discs and six separator plates (43). Install a separator plate first and then alternate between the clutch discs and the separator plates.

- Install retainer (42), and retaining ring (41) .
- Use a press and install bearing (56). Install retaining ring (57) .

- Use a press and install bearing (39) .
- Repeat Steps 3 through 11 in order to assemble the other half of the clutch assembly.
- Install spool (38), spring (36), piston (37), and the shuttle spool in the valve body.

- Install the gasket (not shown), cover (34), and bolts (33) .

- Install two O-ring seals (32) and three O-ring seals (31) .

- Install cap (30) and bolts (29) .

- Install coil (28) and nut (27) .

- Install gasket (26), control valve (25), and bolts (24). Tighten the 5/16 bolts to a torque of 26 N·m (19 lb ft). Tighten the 3/8 bolts to a torque of 42 N·m (31 lb ft).

- Install bearing (23) in the housing.

- Use a suitable press and install bearing (22) on shaft assembly (21) .

- Install bolts (9). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 102 N·m (75 lb ft).
- Install breather (8) .

- Install support (7) and bolts (6). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 102 N·m (75 lb ft).

- Install brake disc (2) on yoke (5). Install O-ring seal (4), the washers, and bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 42 N·m (31 lb ft).
