NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Install Tooling (C) to the engine block.

  2. Apply Tooling (E) to the mounting surface of flywheel housing (7).

  3. Attach Tooling (B) to flywheel housing (7) and a suitable lifting device and position flywheel housing (7) to the engine. The weight of flywheel housing (7) is approximately 340 kg (750 lb).

  4. Remove Tooling (C).

  5. Install 1/2 inch - 13 NC by 8.00 inch bolts (12).

  6. Install 5/8 inch - 11 NC by 4.75 inch bolts (11).

  7. Install 1/2 inch - 13 NC by 6.75 inch bolts (10).

  8. Install 1/2 inch - 13 NC by 3.50 inch bolts (9).

  9. Install 1/2 inch - 13 NC by 1.25 inch bolts (8).

  10. Tighten bolts (11) to a torque of 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft).

  11. Tighten bolts (12), bolts (10), bolts (9), and bolts (8) to a torque of 135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft).

  12. Retighten Bolts after Test. Refer to Special Instruction, "Replacing the Gaskets on the Flywheel Housing and Coupling Housing on 797 and 797B Off-Highway truck."

  13. Install camshaft drive gears (6). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft - Install" Steps 14 through 25.

  14. Attach a suitable lifting device to lifting eye (3) that is located on the rear of the engine. Lift the rear of the engine in order to remove the cribbing. The weight of the engine is approximately 7257 kg (16000 lb).

  15. Lower the engine until plate assembly (4) makes contact with rail assembly (5).

  16. Install the engine oil pan.

  17. Install bolts (1). Use Tooling (D) in order to tighten bolts (1) and bolts (2) to a torque of 1125 ± 100 N·m (830 ± 74 lb ft).

End By:

  1. Install the crankshaft rear seal and the wear sleeve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal and Wear Sleeve - Remove".

  2. Connect the engines. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engines - Connect".
