Field Conversion Procedure to Change From a Fixed Steering Column To An Adjustable Steering Column {4343}

- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR3437, "Steering Wheel - Remove and Install".
- Remove the existing steering column. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR3437, "Steering Column - Remove and Install".
- Place the 8I-3756 Bracket (1) on a bench.
- Attach 120-4390 Bracket (2) and 120-4391 Bracket to either side of bracket (1) using six 8T-4136 Bolts (3), six 8T-4121 Washers and six 8T-4133 Nuts. Do not tighten the bolts at this time.
- Place the 8I-3784 Steering Assembly (4) in the center of the brackets.
- Attach steering assembly (4) to the brackets (2) using two 6R-7557 Bolts (5) into hole (A) .
Note: The 6R-7559 Handle (15) and the 6R-7558 Bolt need to be removed for the installation of the bolts. Replace the two items after bolts (5) are installed. The 6R-7558 Bolt will extend through the slotted opening (B) in brackets (2) .
- Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 42 ± 2 N·m (31 ± 1.5 lb ft).
- Tighten bolts (3) .
- Install the 083-5888 Horn Assembly (6) to the steering assembly (4) .
- Install the original directional assembly and wiper assembly to the steering assembly (4) .
- Attach the 220-3207 Cover Assembly (7) using five 8T-3996 Nuts, one 8T-3992 Screw and four 8T-3991 Screws .
- Install the 084-4076 Steering Adapter (9) with four 8T-4196 Bolts (10), four 8T-4121 Washers and four 089-7338 Sleeves (11) to metering pump (8). Tighten bolts (10) .
- Place the assembled steering column (4) in the cab. Make all electrical connections. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR3437, "Steering Column - Remove and Install".
- Install mounting bracket (1) into position. Install four 8T-4136 Bolts and four 8T-4121 Washers .
Note: When installing the bracket into position, care must be given in order to align the grooves in the metering pump (8) with the bolt hole in the steering assembly joint.
- Install bolt (13) and the locknut into the grooved joint.
- Install steering wheel assembly (14). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR3437, "Steering Wheel - Remove and Install".
