Change Implemented To Reduce Rear Hopper 102-9849 Hinge Pin Failures{6639}

Description of Change: A change has been implemented on the AP-800C and BG-230 asphalt pavers to reduce the number of rear hopper hinge pin failures. The 108-2144 orificed 90° elbows have been added to all four ports on the hopper lift cylinders in order to slow down the hopper speed and reduce "banging" at the end of cylinder stroke. The 103-3610 rear hopper stop was also replaced with part numbers 151-3356, 8H-6508, and 7X-0448 to allow for easier adjustment. These changes became effective on machine serial numbers 1PM705 and 9AL273.
A field modification for machines built prior to these serial numbers is possible be performing the following:

- * Install the 108-2144 orificed 90° elbows into the four hopper lift cylinder ports.
- * Fabricate two hopper reinforcing plates from a mild steel according to the dimensions specified below. These dimensions are given in millimeters.
- * Install the 108-2144 orificed 90° elbows into the four hopper lift cylinder ports.

- * The 103-3610 hopper support plate can be modified as follows. Cut hopper support plate and grind a flat on the top surface for locating and drilling the bolt hole as shown in the following picture. (Drawing is not to scale.)

- * Using a 3 mm fillet weld, fasten the hopper reinforcing plate to the underside of the hopper according to the following dimensions. (Drawing not to scale.)

- * Repeat the hopper support modification and reinforcing plate installation for the opposite side of the machine.

- * Apply Loctite 271 to the threads of two adjusting bolt assemblies as shown below. Insert one adjusting bolt and locking nut into each modified hopper support plate. Lower the hopper until the cylinder is fully extended. Then adjust the bolts up to meet the hopper reinforcing plate and tighten the jam nut.
