SUPPLEMENT: 07/14/80

SERVICE MAGAZINE, JUNE 23, 1980, PAGE 4. In the article "Do Not Add Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner (Corrosion Inhibitor) To New Machines Before Delivery; Cooling System Conditioner Service Interval Changed", put a mark through the word "change" at the end of the second paragraph. In its place write the word "chart".

In the chart, the 1.4 liters shown in the "First Fill" column for the 3304 and 3306 Engines in wrong. Change 1.4 liters to read 1.9 liters.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Do not add Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner (Corrosion Inhibitor) to new machines which have engines that are not equipped with spin-on cooling system conditioner elements, before delivery to the customers. Also, the service interval has been changed for the addition of cooling system conditioner, and the conditioner is now available in 0.237 Liter (.50 Pint) bottles.

The anti-freeze that Caterpillar uses in the cooling systems of all new machines at the factory, has a controlled amount of cooling system conditioner in it. It is not necessary to add any cooling system conditioner before delivery of the machine to the customer. But, after the machine is in use, add the correct amount of cooling system conditioner every 250 service meter hours, as shown under "Later Addition" in the chart.

NOTE: Do not use Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner with Dowtherm 209 coolant.

After a cooling system has been drained, the "First Fill" amount of cooling system conditioner shown in the chart, must be added to the cooling system. After each 250 service meter hours, the correct amount of cooling system conditioner shown under "Later Addition" in the chart, must be added.

The service interval for cooling system conditioners has been changed to 250 service meter hours from 500 service meter hours. A revision of the label on the 0.95 liter (1 quart) bottles (part number 3P2044) of the cooling system conditioner has the new, shorter interval and an application chart which is similar to the chart in this article.

A 0.237 liter (.50 pint) bottle of the cooling system conditioner is now available under part number 6V3542. The .95 liter (1 quart) bottle is still available under part number 3P2044. The chart which follows has the correct usage of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner.
