Fluid Spillage Containment

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to the Tools And Shop Products Guide, NENG2500, for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Disconnect fuel lines (1) and (2). Plug and cap all openings to prevent debris and contamination from entering the system.

2. Loosen the Allen screws from connectors (4) and (5) on electronic control module (3). Disconnect connectors (4) and (5).

3. Remove bolts (6) from electronic control module (3).

4. Remove electronic control module (3).

NOTICE

To avoid component damage, use the allen screws to pull the mating parts of connectors (4) and (5) together. Ensure that the connectors are properly aligned and seated before installing the allen screws. Do not over tighten the allen screws. Excessive torque will cause component damage. Tighten the allen screws holding connectors (4) and (5) to a torque of 2.25 ± 0.25 N·m (20.0 ± 2.0 lb in).

5. Install the electronic control module in the reverse order of removal.
