Installation Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Be sure that the engine cannot be started while service work is being done. This is very important when the engine is equipped with an Automatic Start-Stop System. On engines equipped with an air starting system, close the air supply valve that supplies air to the starter motor before service work is begun.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Inspect the coupling and replace the coupling if replacement is necessary.

  1. Replace O-ring seals (3). Be sure that the O-ring seal is installed on the governor housing that engages with the governor drive.


    NOTICE

    Do not force the governor into position in the coupling


  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to governor (1). The weight of governor (1) is approximately 80 kg (176 lb).

  1. Move the governor to an upright position and engage the governor drive shaft with the coupling. Do not force the governor into position in the coupling.

  1. Install the bolts that hold governor (1) to the governor drive.

  1. Connect the tube assemblies to the governor, if equipped.

  1. Connect rod assembly (2) (not shown) to the shaft on governor (1) .

  1. Connect the harness assemblies to governor (1) .

  1. If the oil was drained from the governor, remove the plug on top of the governor and fill the governor with 1.9 L (2.01 qt) of SAE 40 motor oil that is grade CD. If the governor is equipped with a sight glass, fill the governor to the proper level with SAE 40 motor oil that is grade CD.

  1. Check the governor control linkage for correct adjustment. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Adjusting the Governor Linkage".
