Travel Brake Valve - Install

Type "A" Travel Brake Valve

  1. Make sure that the mating surfaces of the travel motor and the travel brake valve are thoroughly clean.

  1. Check the condition of the three O-ring seals that are used between the travel motor and the travel brake valve. If the O-ring seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Install O-ring seal (12) in the travel motor. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean hydraulic oil.

  1. Fasten Tool (A) and a hoist to travel brake valve and travel motor (11). Carefully, put the unit in position on the threaded rods (10). Slide the travel motor and travel brake valve into the final drive.

  1. Remove the hoist and Tool (A). Install socket head bolt (5) .

  1. Remove two threaded rods (10), and install two socket head bolts (9). Tighten the three socket head bolts to a torque of 295 ± 20 N·m (220 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Install valve (6) and fitting (7) in the travel brake valve. Tighten valve (6) to a torque of 375 ± 20 N·m (270 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Connect four hose assemblies (8) to the travel brake valve in the original locations.


    NOTICE

    To prevent damage to the travel motor, the case must be filled with clean hydraulic oil at least to the fill port before operation.

  1. Install cover assembly (4), the washers and four bolts (1) .

  1. Install cover assembly (3), the washers and four bolts (2) .

  1. Check the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank. If necessary, fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level.

Type "B" Travel Brake Valve

  1. Make sure that the mating surfaces of the travel motor and the travel brake valve are thoroughly clean.

  1. Check the condition of the three O-ring seals that are used between the travel motor and the travel brake valve. If the O-ring seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Install the three O-ring seals in the travel motor.

  1. Place travel brake valve (3) in position on the travel motor. Install six bolts (4). Tighten the six bolts to a torque of 80 ± 8 N·m (60 ± 6 lb ft).


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Check the condition of the O-ring seals that are used in the ends of two hose assemblies (5). If the O-ring seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Connect two hose assemblies (5) to the travel brake valve. Tighten the hose assemblies to a torque of 80 ± 7 N·m (60 ± 5 lb ft).

  1. Fill the hydraulic oil tank with hydraulic oil to the correct level.

  1. Start the machine and check for leaks. Check the operation of the travel motors.

  1. Install cover (2). Install the washers and four bolts (1). Tighten the four bolts to a torque of 130 ± 10 N·m (95 ± 7 lb ft).
