NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Use Tool (A) to remove fuel filter (5) .

  1. Disconnect the fuel temperature sensor connector.

  1. Remove fuel temperature sensor (2) .

  1. Remove O-ring seal (6) from fuel temperature sensor (2) .

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (1). Plug all openings immediately.

  1. Remove two bolts (3) and the washers.

  1. Remove fuel filter base (4) and the two O-ring seals.

  1. Remove the fuel filter mounting stud from the fuel filter base, if necessary.

NOTICE

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound to the threads of the fuel filter mounting stud. Apply the compound to the tapered end of the stud no more than 7.6 mm (.30 inch) from the end.

  1. Install the stud and tighten to a torque of 70 ± 15 N·m (52 ± 11 lb ft).

  1. Inspect the condition of the O-ring seals. Replace the seals, if necessary.

  1. Install the O-rings on fuel filter base (4) .

  1. Install fuel filter base (4) with two bolts (3) and the washers.

  1. Connect hose assemblies (1) .

  1. Install the fuel temperature sensor (2) and connect the fuel temperature sensor connector.

  1. Use Tool (A) in order to install new fuel filter (5). Follow the instructions on the fuel filter.
