Air Filter Element Cleaning
NOTICE |
---|
Clean or replace elements at intervals recommended by the air cleaner OEM's recommendations and operating conditions, or when required by the restriction indicator. Never service the air cleaner with the engine running since this will allow dirt to enter the engine. Check the vessel air duct inlet piping for leaks. Make all repairs to air ducts and inlet piping immediately, as dirt and debris could enter the engine causing damage to the turbocharger and engine components. |
NOTE: The Cleaning Kit contains detergent and oil. Use these products exclusively according to the manufacturer's recommendation.
1. Remove the air cleaner and vacuum limiter elements. Tap the elements gently to dislodge any large particles.
2. Gently brush the filter elements with a soft bristle brush.
3. Spray cleaning solution on the filter elements and let them soak for twenty minutes.
NOTE: Never use the following liquids for cleaning the filter elements: gasoline, steam, caustic, unapproved detergents or parts cleaning solvents. Also never use high pressure water or air for cleaning the filter elements. Using any of these liquids or methods will destroy the filter elements.
4. Rinse off the filter elements with low pressure water. Tap water is acceptable. Rinse the element from the inside (clean side) out (dirty side) to remove dirt and debris and not drive them into element material.
5. Shake off excess water and dry filter elements naturally and thoroughly.
NOTE: Do not dry the filter elements with compressed air, open flame or heat dryers. Excess heat will shrink the cotton filter elements and compressed air will blow holes in the filter element.
6. Inspect the filter elements after cleaning for any tears or holes. Do not use damaged filter elements. Replace if necessary.
7. Re-oil filter elements before installing. Squeeze oil down into top of each pleat (one pass per pleat) and allow oil to wick into filter material for twenty minutes. Re-oil any white spots that are still showing.
NOTE: Never use automatic transmission fluid, motor oil, diesel fuel or other light weight oil to re-oil the filter element.
8. Filter elements should be cleaned at least twice within one year or 500 hours, or whenever restriction indicator shows red, whichever occurs first. Replace the element at least every year.
