Introduction
This instruction provides the procedure for assembling mounting brackets to the marine gear housing using tapered dowels pins. The dowel pins provide a positive location of the mounting brackets to the gear housing. This eliminates any movement between the mounting brackets and the housing once the engine and marine gear have been aligned.
Installation Procedure
Typical Bracket
1. Attach mounting bracket (1) to the side of the marine gear housing with bolts (2) and washers (3). Position bracket (1) so that pre-drilled holes (A) and (B) are in line with the corresponding holes in the gear housing and tighten bolts (2).
2. Drill hole (A) to depth (D).
NOTE: See Chart "A" for dimension (D) and the correct drill bit.
3. Ream hole (A) to the full drilled depth.
NOTE: See Chart "A" for the correct tapered reamer.
4. Insert pin (4) into hole (A) and seat the pin using a plastic mallet.
NOTE: See Chart "A" for pin (4).
5. Check the alignment of hole (B) and adjust the bracket location if necessary. Repeat steps two through four for hole (B).
6. Drill and ream two holes (C) and tap dowels (4) into place repeating steps two through four.
7. Install 2Y5829 Nuts (5) on pins (4) and tighten only enough for nut retention on the pins.
NOTE: The nuts are used for removal of the tapered dowel pins. If normal torque were applied to the nuts the pins may become loosened.
8. Repeat the procedure for installing bracket (1) to the opposite side of the marine gear.
