Installing the 7X1180 Internal Expansion Board in the 8T8697 ECAP Service Tool{0781, 0782}

Usage:

Introduction

The installation of a 7X1180 Internal Expansion Board (IEB) enhances the use of the 8T8697 Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP). It provides an additional four sockets to install service program modules (SPM).

After the IEB installation, the ECAP will have a total of seven sockets for service program module installation and use.

NOTE: The only tool necessary for removal and installation of the key board panel is a phillips screwdriver.

Reference: SEHS8742, Using the 8T8697 Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP).

Installing the 7X1180 Internal Expansion Board

1. Remove eight screws (1) holding key board panel (2) of the ECAP.

NOTE: The two screws on the front edge of key board panel (2) are shorter than the other six screws. Make sure the two shorter screws are returned to the same holes during reinstallation.

2. Carefully lift key board panel (2) out of the case by lifting on Port #1 connector (3).

3. Carefully turn key board panel (2) over for access to main circuit board (4).

4. Locate SPM sockets (5) in the lower right corner of main circuit board (4).

5. Position IEB (6) to align SPM sockets U2, U3, U4 and U5 above SPM sockets U45, U46, U47 and U48.

6. Inspect for proper alignment of all pins and connectors between the IEB (6) and main circuit board (4).

NOTE: Make sure all connector pins and mounting connectors are aligned correctly, with each other, before proceeding to Step 7.

7. Press down, gently and evenly, at all four corners of IEB (6) until the connector pins start to engage with mounting connectors.

8. If the connector pins and mounting connectors have engaged properly, press IEB (6) down firmly, at all four corners, until support posts (7) "snap" into place.

9. Make sure that all connector pins and mounting connectors have mated (engaged) correctly.

10. If any of the connector pins and mounting connectors have NOT mated (engaged) correctly:

* Remove the IEB.

Refer to Removing the 7X1180 Internal Expansion Board, in this instruction.

* Inspect each connector pin and carefully straighten if necessary.
* Reinstall the IEB following the above Steps 4 thru 10. This completes the installation of the IEB.
* If you are going to install additional SPM(s) (8), at this time, refer to SEHS8742.
* If not, proceed to Step 11.

11. Reinstall key board panel (2) into the case, using eight screws (1).

NOTE: Make sure the two shorter screws are returned to the same holes during reinstallation, as noted in Step 1.

12. Power up (turn ON) the ECAP.

Any SPM installed in the IEB should now appear on the LCD of the ECAP.

If any or all of the SPM(s) do not display on the ECAP:

* Inspect for power to the ECAP
* Inspect for proper installation of the IEB.

Refer to Installing the 7X1180 Internal Expansion Board, in this instruction.

* Inspect for proper installation of the SPM(s).
* Inspect each SPM to make sure you have not installed a duplicate.

Removing the 7X1180 Internal Expansion Board

If any of the SPM(s) installed in sockets U45, U46, U47, or ECAP Executive Program Module U48, need to be removed and/or replaced, the IEB must be removed.

1. Squeeze, gently, the top end of each standoff (1). This will allow the spacer to collapse slightly, for clearance, to remove IEB (2).

2. Carefully remove, by lifting up at all four corners, IEB (2), gently and evenly, until all connector pins are free (disengaged) from all mounting connectors.

3. The IEB (2) should now slip up over each standoff (1).

The IEB should now be free from the key board panel to allow access to the SPM(s) installed in sockets U45, U46, U47, or ECAP Executive Program Module U48.

4. Reinstall IEB and key board panel.

Refer to Installing the 7X1180 Internal Expansion Board, in this instruction.
