RM-350B Reclaimer/Mixer Machine Systems Caterpillar

Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting

Usage:

RM-350B AXW
Make sure that you read the following warnings before troubleshooting a machine. Perform the checks and the tests in the listed order. The hydraulic oil must be at normal operating temperature in order to obtain correct testing information.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact any Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause serious injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic system.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

When testing and adjusting the transmission and power train, move the machine to an area clear of obstructions, with safe exhaust ventilation for the exhausts. Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, do the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the transmission and power train.

----------------------

  1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Make sure that the machine is away from working machines and personnel.

  1. Lower the rotor in order to relieve hydraulic pressure in the system.

  1. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all personnel away from the machine or in the view of the operator.

    ------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from machine transmission neutralizing.

The transmission on this machine will neutralize when the transmission shift lever is in reverse and the hydraulic control lever is in either OPEN or CLOSE position.

The neutralizer will not stop the machine from rolling. Use the brakes to stop the machine.

    ----------------------

  1. Position the propel lever in the STOP position.

  1. Activate the parking brake.

  1. Lower the rotor to the ground.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Move all hydraulic controls to the positions that will release the hydraulic oil pressure in the hydraulic system.

  1. All machine hydraulic systems use the same hydraulic oil tank. Carefully loosen the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank in order to release the hydraulic oil pressure in the tank.

  1. Release all hydraulic oil pressure before any component is loosened, tightened, removed, or adjusted.

  1. Tighten the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank.

  1. The hydraulic oil pressure in the system has now been released. Hydraulic oil lines and/or components can be removed.

Perform a visual check of the machine. Record measurements in order to solve a problem.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from improperly checking for a leak.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. Escaping air or fluid under pressure, even a pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue causing serious injury, and possible death.

If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.
